We often compare player A, generally a fairly young player, with player B, a player in his prime, to eachother. But there comes a point when player A surpasses his rolemodel, player B, be it because he has plain out become better or because player B is declining, we'll focuss more on the latter in this thread. Strictly players that have developed at a certain pace that they've become more important and plain out better than what they were compared with all along..
Name the young guns (between 21 and 25) that you could see surpassing their rolemodels within the very near future (2 years tops). We won't take declining factors into account, so the role model must be below the age of 32, but older than 27, with the exception of goalies.
Like say for instance, Luongo was once being compared to Martin Brodeur, but he's now taking over and leaving Bro behind him. This is just an example, so Devil fans don't throw a fit..
A personal favorite of mine was made on an unofficial Stars board, saying how Brenden Morrow is slowly developing to be greater than his original comparison, Ryan Smyth.
Or maybe you see Afinogenov outscoring his original comparison, Alexei Kovalev next year? Those are the ones I'd like to hear..
