Commodore was done before he signed in Columbus.

The rule changes hit him hard.

But we'll always have the memories.

re. Commodore ? from other thread... last year there were many reports about his conditioning; this year new coach and an offseason of training later, it sounds like he was passed on the depth chart based on Aportzline's updates and other reports ...the contract is scary...(and what BCF wrote above...again contract is scary)

And I'm not saying you sign a guy with the intent on trading him. Its an option. It deminishes the RISK of signing him if given the guys contract, age, injury history, playing style calls for that reduction factor. To me Z fits that label.

Planning for two years from now and saying OMG I may have to pay Carlson and what if I get 3 good players well that's a good problem. And perhaps it results in trading the guy you just signed if the other two do work out. Or perhaps your new team structure can handle that overload of resources that that position. Who knows.

Its just insane to me to instill risks to the team over the next two years because of some fear that you are caught with 3 good players or two good players and an untradeable 4M Dman.
This isn't about having to pay Carlson a few years down the road. This is about ice time or lack there of both now and in the near future.

Green is a 25+ minute a night guy. Michalek is a 22+ minute a night guy. Do you want Carlson playing 12-13 minutes a night? Even if you cut those other 2's time a bit, which means you are underutilizing your high paid assets but whatever, that still doesn't leave the amount of ice time that Carlson deserves now let alone next year or even later this year when his play is likely to be demanding 20 minutes a night? What do you trade one then?

I don't see what's the problem with "overpaying" (and underplaying) your 3rd RH Dman (Michalek in your rosy scenario) if you're underpaying your 2nd (JC). It makes no sense still because its about allocation of funds and the ability of having a cheap, young #2 beat out the vet for the ice. You make it sound like having JC prove himself is wrong and having three good players if he does is an issue. Injuries and inconsistencies happen. Having too many good players is never bad especially if its at the cost of 2.

And when the time comes to make a decision cause the cost is too much, you have OPTIONS.

At any rate I still say GMGM will bring someone in eventually and guess what... icetime will be adjusted for the last 20 games plus playoffs. OMG JC may be at 12min or vet player X may. So your lead concern is going to occur one way or another.

I can't believe we may be on the verge of having Fahey, Sloan, and Erskine play and we're talking about icetime.

Especially since the first of those two is going to be the Right Dmen.

We'll see how long this "stinger" lasts. We may begin to see those obvious near term risks take affect.

We'll still win a good portion of games I bet with that ****. I'd worry about how we have to change our mindset in order to pull those games out and how that change of mindset would affect the overall success of the season.

Why? because he has the potential to be a better goal scorer then Ovechkin?

I've said it from the start.

I can't stand Stamkos. Hate the kid more than I do Crosby.

I'm more upset that Brad Richards is beating #55 in the +/- race.

Haha, how can you hate Stamkos? all's he does is stand at the left circle wait for St. Louis to give him a nice pass and all he has to do is let his wicked shot off and boom, goal.

DD, In my heart I know that Jeff Schultz will regain his +/- form from last year! 1 ! !.

Stamkos is great. It's ridiculous how he can score from the exact same spot over and over again.

I tried bringing this up in the Stamkos thread on the main board, but Lightning fans are completely blind to it. It's crazy how easy it would be to shut down that PP (or at least force someone else to have to beat you).

It's one thing to say it, another to do it. If he proves easy to game plan against then his totals will go down. But maybe he adapts, or maybe the reason he's able to score the same way is just that the team is really good at making that type of play.

No reason for them not to be optimistic. The proof will be in the pudding, natch.

that's exactly how bondra made a living for years. right point power-play onetimers. i bet you could throw a hat around where about 90% of his pp goals were scored during his career.

He has got a good shot but little hockey sense from what I have seen. His goal last night was force fed to him by his winger.

Besides he plays in the southleast

I agree that McPhee is likely to bring in a veteran 3rd pairing guy to play on the right side at some point this season. This guy will be a 5/6 type who should be playing 15-17 minutes a game on a top team like the Caps and that is what he will be playing for them as Green will be playing 25 a game, Carlson 20 a game and that will leave 15 minutes for this guy.

A 5/6 guy to fill a 5/6 hole, go figure...
