I remember everyone freaking out when negotiations with him and the Canucks fell through when Gillis became GM.

Seems like he's the most recent "best player not in the NHL" to figure out why he was exactly that.

He wasn't good enough to beat out Neal, Eriksson, Morrow, Benn, Ott, Burish for winger time in the top 6 and he can't play a checking line role.

I hope Pittsburgh claims him, love to see him succeed over there.

Imagine that Pitts and NYI at least look into claiming him...

Flames might also be getting desperate enough for a warm body that can play top 6 hockey...

Would be surprised to not see him either claimed, or like huselius a few years ago, clearing and then traded in a swap of unproductive cheap players

I can see him as a Jussi Jokinen or Sampsonov type guy who just needs a change of scenary

this is where the Isles have to just scoop guys up. Why the heck not

whats his contract like? on the cheap I assume?

Can't see any one claiming this dude. Can he go back to Europe instead of the AHL?

I could definitely see him getting claimed, without question.

Florida maybe? Pittsburgh? Islanders?

Remember when he scored a hat trick in his first game?

Boris Valabik also waived according to Bobby Mac.

Flames could use anyone with offensive skill, but Sutters might not pick him up because of deficiences in his defensive game.

1 yr-1 way $675k

he is a cheap, temporary experiment for a team needing scoring

Honestly that should be the case. He never fit in with Crawfords system and you can't fault him for it when he was kept on such a short leash. I think he could be this seasons bills leino. I'd definitely take him in Pittsburgh.

Not a fan of this move by Nieuwendyk.

Brunnstrom's skill set has largely been misused while in Dallas, going back to Tippett keeping him on the 3rd and 4th line most of his first season despite regular flashes of brilliance.

Now that there's no room for him in the top 6 (no complaints there, our offense is looking great so far), I think the least he could've done was shop Brunnstrom for a pick or something, instead of basically giving him up for free.

I think he'll show more with his new team, if given ample opportunity.
