Gonna say it now

Gonchar is the best off-season signing we have ever had..

I think our power play could be near the top at the end of the season and it is all because of Gonchar and Karlsson. The good thing is, is that he is here for 2 more years after this one.. And even if his game drops.. Karlsson's will only make up for it as he gets better.

Our Power play will be HUGE in the playoffs and that is one of the most important things to have going for you in the afteryear..

Gonchar > Volchenkov

If the third year on the contract is what made him sign here, so be it, he's worth it.

Gonchar is one of the best signings, only because it makes Karlsson better - something that counts beyond the 3 years.

He doesnt have much to contend with...the thing I held back from saying before the season started was I think Karlsson could outscore him this year...it's certainly possible.

Puck moving defensemen hold their value for-****ing-ever. Gonchar won't just be useful past this season, I think he will be useful past his contract.

He could retire right now and he would be our best UFA signing ever

This is the 15th game of the year.

Gonchar 3 goals, 8 assists, 11 points
Karlsson 3 goals, 7 assists, 10 points

There is still 2 periods to play, too.

I don't think we've had this offense from the backend since redden/chara being both 40+ point players.

Throw in kuba who's good for 0.5ppg. It may drop with less ice time though.

Still if relatively healthy i could see

Gonchar 60 points
Karlsson 55 points
Kuba 30 points (counting his injury)

This may be the best offensive d corps we've ever had.

I'm still trying to find a post from a Sens fan on this board saying how Gonchar will experience his biggest slump in over 15 years because we were doing poorly in the first 5 games.

Not bad. There's no doubt Gonchar (or a big shot) makes a difference.

Gonchar is our best signing and is the best signing of the offseason by any team.

Sorry, top end.

I guess in 07 we had redden-meszaros, and preissing-corvo.

Then again, the only D to have 0.5 ppg that year was redden with 36 in 64.

This year we could have 2, if not 3 hit the 0.5 mark.

Which year would you think we were better?

It's gonna be tough to beat the 05-06 and 06-07 groups. Karlsson and Gonchar might match Redden and Chara in 05-06 (not likely) or Redden and Meszaros (more likely), but the 3rd pairing isn't going to match Pothier and Meszaros or Corvo and Preissing.

Lol. NHL.com was rating the teams that made the best UFA moves and Ottawa wasn't on their list which consisted of 5 teams.

I ask you. Were there even 5 elite players in the UFA last year? LOL.

Gonchar's abilities were never in question, it's more his health that makes/breaks the signing.

yep

Even if this team sucks/sucked Gonchar would still easily put up 60+ pts if he played in the neighborhood of 75 games...as in if he stays healthy.
