Mark Letestu is John Cullen 2.0

What a great find this guy was. He reminds me alot of Johnny Cullen in that he came out of nowhere in the Pens system, got a chance, and never relinquished it. He is such a smart player and is really nifty with the puck. Cullen was the same type of player. He didn't have the physical talent to wow people, but he was always in the right place and did everything right.

Here is my point of View, if Mark Letestu keeps playing like this, Jordan Staal could be expansible. He seems to have a better offensive upside then Staal and is really good defensibly

Why not keep both?

...so what can Shero get for a John Cullen 2.0/Zarley Goligoski package at the trade deadline?

Welp there went that thread about Letestu turned into a trade staal thread just like that.

no doubt that not being able to train much this summer has made Staal expansible. eat more salads, Staalsy!

He may be expansible after the summer, but he's still very good. That's defensible!

I'm sticking with Stu Barnes. Cullen had a ton of bite to his game and was a nasty little bugger.

Still remember Cullen with his fist cocked back and Tomas Sandstrom with his jersey over his head.

Back to the topic. Did anyone watch Pens hockey in the late 80's early 90's? Anyone see the similarities?

That's a pretty good comparison, too. Cullen was pretty feisty.

Cullen had two 90 point seasons.

I never said Letestu was going to have the career John Cullen did. I said his style of play reminds me of him and how he came out of nowhere in the system. Big Difference.

Letestu is at a PPG now.

I'd rather us keep both Staal and Letestu. Our three-headed monster is ridiculous enough for other teams, imagine four.

I've been a fan of Letestu since 07-08, and he showed way more in WBS than Janne "Stats" Pesonen in 08-09 when he got going.

I just curious to see if Letestu starts to stickhandle a bit more as he gets more comfortable at this level. He has some dangles, he made more than a few AHL defensemen look really silly. I want to see if it translates to the NHL.

I agree, but let's wait til we're a bit further in the season to anoint him.

He's played on the wing before . . . did a little with Malkin last year. Like the thought of Letestu-Staal-Malkin a lot.

As I wrote in the GDT, I haven't been a big fan of Malkin's adjustment to wing. But, once the other two forwards were Letestu and Comrie, Malkin was in game 6 SCF defensive rover mode. Take out Comrie, put in Staal . . . I'll hate to play against that line.

BTW, may the day come that I live long enough to see Letestu get more ice time in a game than Dupuis.

Take off Dupuis PK minutes, and that's exactly what he got.

We're nearly there my friend, we're nearly there.

Meh. As it stands we have a second line now so once Staal is back we can still put out The Best Third Line In Hockey without taking away the offensive flow of L1 and L2.
