He's still recovering from the hip surgery he had in early July. He'll get up to speed.

Leino is getting over 2 minutes of PP time a game... so he's gotten minutes there. PP has been struggling, though.

Leino has made some nice plays, but he definitely seems to be struggling with his hip's strength.

Leino will probably not = last years playoff stats. I think he's one of those guys that turns it on in the playoffs like Giroux and Briere. I'd like to be happily proven wrong though.

Honestly, that would be the best case scenario as it would be the only way we can keep him with the cap hell Holmgren will be blindly wandering into next offseason.

Players who "turn it on" in the playoffs usually come at bargain prices because at the negotiating table it is easy for the GM to cite 40 points/80 regular season games as a more indicative view of a player's worth and 20 points in 20 playoff games as a 'small sample size'. Not to mention over half the league makes the playoffs anyway, so the regular season is very diminished in the NHL.

Fernando Pisani turned a good playoff run into a very problematic contract for the Oilers...

Leino looks like he's still getting up to speed.

Leino seems like the kind of guy that'll get most of his points on the PP and our PP has sucked so far.

I think we need to give him a little time. By years end, I think Leino will be in the top three for scoring.

Good point, although I would argue that since Edmonton did that for a bunch of their players and teams watched it blow up in their face that (hopefully) GMs will be more cautious in the future about small sample sizes. With Holmgren, though... that is doubtful.

Top 3 scoring for our bottom 6? It is a distinct possibility if he picks it up.

He's got a few assists up there and I'm sure he's going to come back into form. I'm still digging that line though.

The whole team is kind of sluggish right now. I'm not particularly worried about Leino. Yet.

I'm not worried about Leino, but only because I didn't expect too much out of him. I don't think anyone on this board really expected him to produce at the level he did last year in the playoffs. I think at best he'll get into the 60 point range, but I don't really expect him to do that. I'd be happy with a 20-20 season.

Leino looked pretty good tonight. I think it's just a matter of time, hip surgery and missing a big chunk of training camp isn't easy to just shake off just because the season started.

Ville Leino, meet John Druce.

1989-90 Playoffs:
15GP - 14G - 3A - 17PTS

Career:
531GP - 113G - 126A - 239PTS (regular season)
Playoffs (other than 1989-90)
38GP - 3G - 3A - 6PTS

The Wings rarely misjudge a player.

Not sure if that is a shot at Leino's talent, but the Wings didn't WANT to give him up, more like they HAD to give him up. From what I understand a lot of the wings management were very high on him and it was a tough trade for them to make. The wings spotted talent there, as usual, just couldn't keep him there.

well its quite the opposite.

in playoffs he got 21pts and 16pts were even strength points.
this season three out of four points is ESP.
