THN: Quick Takes Early Lead for Vezina

This may be a fun thread to resurrect down the road.

For now though, Quick is #1:

http://www.thehockeynews.com/article...arly-lead.html

"Will be pushed all year long by Jonathan Bernier, but proving 2009-10 wasn’t a fluke. So far, Quick is 3-0 and hasn’t allowed more than one goal in a game."

"GAME OF THE MONTH: After stalling at the end of the regular season and losing in Round 1 to Vancouver, Jonathan Quick started this year in a head-to-head match with Luongo and the Canucks. He turned in a 23-save performance and was beaten just once during a 2-1 overtime victory for the Kings."

To answer the question: Last year, when we thought Quick would come close to the wins record.

Must not be enough material to write about since 2 weeks into the season they're already talking about awards . . .

And yet the NHL doesn't name him one of the players of the week. He had one heck of a starting week to the season and absolutely deserved one of the spots.

Yeah, way early. But I was thinking about this the other night when we were watching the game.

I think hes going to have a great season. Hes in better shape. Our team is better. He will be getting more rest because he has a good back up. The table is set for a great year for him and us.

I thought so too. But, hey, what do I know.

That's the guts of your message that matters most. Most of us without Bernier-itus remember that Quick was lights out pre-Olympics, and suffered post-Olympics due to fatigue.

He's improved his conditioning which will address some of the fatigue himself, and he'll be played less, which should take care of the rest. Add to that the improved defense playing in front of him, and the Kings are set.

Put the emphasis on early lead.. I like the way Quick's play yet this season. Very solid.

I also think that JQ is playing better due to JB being there. I am not certain that its a competition thing either, maybe but I see it more as JQ learning some from the kid. He (JQ) has always been slightly unorthodox in his style prior to this season imtao and now that he is working with JQ in the fold he seems to be emulating the kids style a bit.

Also the D in front of him is significantly better, both on the back end and up front.

He'll be solid, but this won't last.

As For Last Season...

I did not hold Quick's burnout or fade out last season against him... maybe he could have been in better condition. But our good ol' Coach and playing him till he died and the fact he had a new baby at home. That is a tough combo to deal with, Ersberg should have had 5 to 10 more starts minimum but our coach is a nut case! Thanks to god he may have learned something or DL laid down the law to him. And we will have a more rested JQ this season.

Both our Jonathan's look good so far and I love that we are giving the young guys a chance to make the team. I am amazed to be honest that we did not get more vet fillers in here and I am happy about the fact we did not! Would be nice to have added one more scoring winger but they don't grow on trees! I really hope Lokti or Schenn can fill this role for us. I still don't have hopes as high as some do for Parse, as I feel he is serviceable on the 4th line but I think many ah way over rate his skill set. That is my humble opinion any how.

Very happy with the start of our season and really am amazed we are in such good shape against such quality teams as we have faced so far.... Go Kings!

Makes sense. Save Quick for the Coyotes.

Against MUCH worse competition.

Goes both ways but that can be said about the Kittens entire division.
