He was also very solid defensively- he knocked the puck off a Leaf and caused an odd man rush.

Didn't result in a goal, but still. Very solid play.

Great game. I really like the Dubi-Anisimov-Cally line. That could be a good 2nd line. If only we had a first line . Good move by Torts for putting Stepan back with Avery and Fedotenko. They play well together. Probably the best they looked on defense. Sauer had another solid game. I still dont understand why they had him sit. Biron played great that is probably Sather's smartest offseason signing.

Much much better game from the guys tonight, that's the kind of effort I will applaud. Now if they can consistently compete like that you won't hear me ***** anymore. Problem is that's unlikely.

The Leafs tonight were not actually all that great.

I still don't know in my heart the ratio of Leafs sucking/Rangers ruling.

Anyways, what I saw was the defense actually communicating and moving the puck effectively.

they blocked 30+ shots. I'd say the Rangers played well tonight

Yes, your are right on that.

They did play very well. If there is one stat that you can at least put some stock in, it is blocked shots.

I still think that the Leafs were a bit flat tonight.

nice job by Biron, has Lundqvist played a game this year without letting in 4 goals? just curious, anyway for this suppossed horrible defensive team they sure looked great tonight. The players have it in them to play for each other. They just have to dig deep. Plenty of teams miss key players, the Rangers have been very fortunate to be very very healthy for what 5 years now?

The injury bug happens to every team eventually. The rangers have good enough talent to right the ship and hold the fort until Gabby, Drury and for the King to awaken from his summer hibernation.

Our top 3 scorers after 5 games;

Derek Stepan, Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov.

Weak down the middle my ass

Yes I know Dubi is a winger.

This kid Sauer is a keeper. (Told you so)

Oh and... TANK! TANK! TANK!

Still puzzled why Sauer wasnt in the lineup the other two games - because he plays the system so well. He is one of the best defenseman reading the play in the neutral zone and i love how he follows up a breakup play by continuing up the ice. Not only does that support the forwards in case they lose it, but its another body for the opposition to backcheck against. Hockey is a game of numbers, especially in the neutral zone and Sauer has done a great job with this and knowing when to pinch.

The Rangers as a whole were a lot steadier in their own zone tonight, and like i have said, it starts with not running around and letting the play come to you. The Rangers were sound positionally and they needed to be.

If this team could bury their chances they wouldn't be half bad. Still a lot of work to do though and this is the type of game theyll have to play especially with Gabby out.

Some players who stood out:

Sauer - see above
Stepan - had a good game and the feet were moving. Couldve did a better job on the goal against. He'll learn.
Anisimov - he's building and you can see hes gotten stronger. That line has been consistent which is a very good sign.
Rozy - confident with the puck tonight and decisive. When Rozy is decisive hes very effective.
Prust - Is following up a great camp with some great hustle and spirit this team needs right now.
Cally - Par for the course, he was all over the place. If he could just put the puck in the net...

I've had some faith in backups we've had but tonight Biron actually made me relax right from the get-go.

I knew he was going to stop that break away. He had a great game.

Everyone played well, Sauer belongs on the roster.

I do too, but in this league you have to do a good job of keeping them flat, especially on the road. I think the Rangers played a good road game tonight.

It's great to have a goalie play with some urgency and focus. All the Henrik chanting seemingly gets to his head at times.

Nice to hear that Sauer played well. How did Gilroy do? He is another guy who should be on a short leash with Valetenko and McDonagh in Hartford.

Just finished watching -- that was one well played hockey game. Damn right Sauer belongs. As good a 60 minute effort I've seen from a Tortarella team since he got to New York. And they beat a pretty good team. I can't imagine how anyone would find fault with that performance.

Gilroy played pretty good from what I saw. Id like Valentenko up here but if Gilroy is doing a decent enough job Im alright with him developing some more in Hartford.

This game was won by 6 men.

Marc Staal
Michal Rozsival
Dan Girardi
Michael Del Zotto
Michael Sauer
and Matt Gilroy.

Our defense played a damn near flawless game.
