I play men's rec league, so if I chirped anyone I'd have to kick my own ass.

I never was one for talking smack, but in college, my friend used to have the best ones. My favorite ones usually revolved around him offering guys on the other team skating lessons. He would deliver it in a very straight, deadpan manner which would drive other people crazy for some reason.

Agreed, I play in a couple of C leagues so why bother? The only time I get chirped is when I'm playing well, like when I was accused of running up the score after getting a hat trick.

This ain't the Gongshow boards.

Most of us here don't chirp. I joke with my friends, but I'm not good enough to bother chirping other guys.

Nobody really chirps in the leagues I play in but if somebody ever trips around the blue line, we usually make a joke about physically tripping because of the blue line.

I should start yelling random chirps that aren't even that insulting though for the hell of it. "Hey! Your stick handling is slightly below average jerk!"

I came in this thread to post the same thing. Of course poking fun at teammates is another thing

I play in a college league against some other local schools, so as you can imagine there are a lot of D-bags and a lot of chirping.

Some of my favorites: -Opposition having fat, ugly, girlfriends
-If they go to a bad school, they're automatically retards
-If they go to a good school, they're automatically nerds

I only chirp my friends and would never rip on a guy on another team. It's not really my style.

I don't chirp at all but so far this season I've been really getting it from the other team. I play RW and like to stand in front of the net and goalies seem to lose there minds for some reason. Also was almost on a breakaway and this guy is pretty much draped around me and pulls me down then he starts crying all the way to the penalty box telling me I don't even know how to skate and that I'm a diver.

Jokes on him though because I sped past him to get a breakaway and scored while he hauled me down again. The ref told me I would have had a penalty shot if I hadn't scored.

Only bad thing is I feel on like my left ass cheek and its so sore to walk or run with now haha. Good thing I don't have a game until Sunday.

My favorite chirp was a kid calling me fat in a high school game years ago. I had him pinned to the boards after the period ended and the ref was like "alright let him go." I said "He called me fat that (expletive,)" the ref says to me "No he said fast, he said you were a fast player."

Probably the only words that ever upset me on the ice. I was in peak condition my senior year, fat was not a word you could use to describe me.

Otherwise chirps are useless. I try to keep mine totally obscure and ridiculous. How many times can you call a guy a (F-ing kitty cat)?

If I know it will help my team, I'll do it. Nothing really premeditated, mostly heat of the moment observations/middle school insults. I guess people just think "Who the hell is this kid, talking to me like this?!" And it messes them up good... Most of the time its just joking around, having a good time.

Common playful chirps include the infamous "red line monster", "turbo skates"(terrible skating technique), a few inside jokes from the rink, and calling people by NHL player names There was a guy who played in our league with a mirrored visor, yellow laces and a ton of CCM gear, and wore #8. Naturally, he was referred to as "Eight The Fake" every game he ever played against us.

I don't chirp. If anyone ever pushes me around or punches me I sit there and smile and laugh. It gets the job done.

I played college puck but aside from a few confrontations that got heated, I wasn't usually one to chirp or take many penalties. I did chirp to my teammates in practice A LOT though. All kinds of things... I could chirp about anything, the only draw back being that it was easy with my teammates because they were all my friends so I felt extremely comfortable around them and if something I said ended up sounding dumb, no one would care. Chirps that backfire can be pretty embarrassing in an actual game.

Anyhow, favorites were little things like:

(Teammate talking a lot during team stretches at the start of practice): Hey Mikey, the only thing I see you stretching is your mouth.

(Beating a defender in a one-on-one drill, or watching them get beat) Eh, I've got an extra jock in the locker room... let me know if you need it after that one.

(Teammate's girlfriend in the stands) Don't be mad your girlfriend only comes to watch me, or so-and-so, play.

(Teammate's mom in the stands) Hey Brown, is that your girlfriend? No, than give her my number alright?

I got chirped after scoring a goal on a rebound from 2 feet out, something about having not having any hands. In second period I posted up next to the net on the PP. Our dman threw it on net and our center tipped it straight down. It bounced back up near me and I swatted it in the net out of the air. I glanced over towards the chirper and he skated away with his head down.

That's why you don't chirp...you always end up feeling like an ass.

I do the exact same thing, haha.

I find if you only toss out ridiculous "chirps" then the other team gets tired/bored and stops going after you or they absolutely lose it.

I spent an entire season calling guys "turtle wax" and must have drawn a penalty ever couple games and I couldn't figure out why, haha.
