Matthew Barnaby

Where do you think Barnaby will sign.He will likely get 1-1.5 mill a year.

I think he will sign in Ottawa, but I'm hoping on the Penguins we need a guy like him.I wouldnt mind seeing him in Chicago either but I can't see that happening.

Rumor has it that Barny is very willing to come back the NYR if they want him back, which I'm sure they do. Only problem is Mess retired, Simon's probably not coming back, and Lindros is likely on his way out, leaving Barnaby with precious few friends on the team...

Don't be surprised if Barnaby comes home to Ottawa...

Sure he's said he'd never go there in the past...but I'm pretty sure we can look forward to a Barnaby-Fisher-Varada line next year.

No offense to NYR fans, but I do not think it will be such a slamdunk anymore that they will have their pick of UFAs. (That assumes that they even intend to be major players in the UFA market, of which I have my doubts.)

You are not joining a team of known veterans if you are to sign with NYR now. They are in rebuilding mode, and clearly are not contenders. Even though they were a non-playoff team since '97, they always featured a bevy of established, successful veterans on their roster, and with that, the promise (albeit false promise) of success.

Not anymore, at least in the short-term. Can they become a playoff team again soon? Sure. But everything else being somewhat equal ($), joining the likes of Tom Poti, Jan Hlavac and even Jaromir Jagr is not likely going to entice a veteran UFA with winning on his mind.

***

Short of some draconian measures being introduced in the next CBA, rest assured Barnaby will garner more than $1-$1.5M per year on his next contract.

This is not news to Ranger fans. Everybody knows that no matter how much money Slats throws at these UFAs, most of them will want to go to a contender. DOn't be fooled, past summers on paper the Rangers looked like legit contenders, not any more. That said, assuming the above post was somehow vaguely related to the Barnaby discussion, Matt has said publicly that he'd love to come back to NY, but I'm sure he's keeping his options open as well.

Odds are Barnaby will be returning to New York, and you can quote me on that one.

Um... how big of a guarantee can that be?

You said the odds are... sure, you can quote me on that too. The odds are he'll return to the Rangers; that's a given. If you were to guarantee that he DOES sign with the Rangers, that's a different story.

At the right price, Sutter would welcome Barnaby in Calgary. Sutter was fishing for Barnaby at the trade deadline but felt the price NYR wanted was too high. Simon appears to really like it in Calgary and has a good chance of re-signing, perhaps Barnaby will follow him there.

Well, he wants to go back to New York, and they would like to have him back. I'd guarantee it, but nothing is guaranteed in this offseason other than Ovechkin going 1st overall.

Penalty takers and penalty killers make a good combination.

Even Yzerman's gone on record as saying the Wings need more toughness, saying specifically the team needs more gritty players who can take a regular shift like Darren McCarty. Since Barnaby's coming into his prime and fits that description perfectly (too bad the same can't be said about McCarty himself) it would seem logical that Detroit would go after him- but with the murky labor situation finding as much money as the highest bidder for a very valuable commodity like Barnaby might be tough.

Matthew Barnaby will sign with an eastern conference team

Rangers
Sabres
Senators

Not in any order

If the Rangers bring back Eric Lindros at a cheaper price, they have a much better chance of signing Barnaby

not when your team boasts Simon, Oliwa, Niemenan taking penatlies at LW alone. normally those 3 would be spread along 3 teams. Barnaby as well would really be over the top. in my opinon.

Toronto could do with him.

Rberts, Tucker, Domi and Barnaby down the left side. Man to here the fans of other teams react, it would be beautiful.

Why would he want to goto "the second city" and play for a losing franchise, when he can go to "THE City" and play for a losing franchise?

Ah, remember the good ol' days when toughness and the willingness to use it was a virtue and not a liability?

You can add boston into the list of possible teams that Barnaby might sign with. They need to add in some grit to their lineup and he would look goood playing with Lapointe.
