For a game, at least, the Flyers were the big winners in the offseason trade that sent leading scorer Jeff Carter to Columbus. Carter is sidelined with a broken foot and has only three assists in five games this season. Philadelphia obtained Voracek, who had an assist during the first-period rampage, and first- and third-round draft picks. The Flyers used their first-rounder on the 18-year-old Couturier and he already has five goals.
Aportzline Aaron Portzline
Ron Hextall, Dave Nonis, John Ferguson Jr., Craig Button ... all names afloat around the NHL.

I'm guessing Porty is basically saying Howson is on his way out. This is good news obviously. Funny thing they did a segment at the game tonight on Hextall and he said his goal was still to become an NHL GM. He's got my vote, he played with so much heart...
On a more serious note, if I were in charge of picking out the new GM, I would look for someone who loved the game. They would have to be a fan of the game and preferably the Blue Jackets. Yeah, I'm serious.
I think the only person who can lead us out of this mess, and it is a hot mess, is someone who has Union Blue blood running through their veins. I think you have to put the team above everyone else, to have that passion, that fire, to make it work. We want that out of our players, why not our GM?
We're in bad shape. You only need to look around this board to see what the answer is. It's passion. It's been missing for a long time. Maybe the answer really is in the room...but it's Passion.
A good GM is a good GM. I don't want a guy with experience but failed.
If Hextall is the guy, then go get him. Get the guy you believe in.
The guys that would do the "believing in" are the same that continued to give MacLean "another year", hired Priest into a position that, frankly, he has no business being in, and greenlighted the hire of an assistant GM from Edmonton, who, despite being a "Capologist", has proven with more money spent, he's bumbled the roster even worse and who's swan song might have been last night....
We can't afford another one of those....
I'm glad these guys might be ready for primetime, but we have a huge mess here, long term contracts that won't expire for years or a decade.... This will not be an easy situation for anybody, especially another rookie GM....
