So basically Motteau got hurt getting ready to come back froma previous injury and Goalie 2021 is pretty much out for the year? LOL. Only the Isles. So I guess if they were to trade Rolie, that won't happen until the dealine.

Well that didn't take long. He needs to do the right thing and retire. The team needs to move on.

Does anyone want to talk about how he is still going to return to all-star form?

At this point DiPietro needs to retire. I admire his drive to comeback, but at this point it's looking further and further away from happening. Granted he hasn't played all that much in the last few years, but he looks awful.

His lateral movement and positioning are absolutely terrible. One of the biggest factors that annoys me about him is inability to learn from his mistakes. From his going down early to his strolls just so he can play the puck. I liked years ago when Nolan said, "yeah Rick is a much better goaltender when he limits his touches of the puck." If he's not going to listen to an NHL coach, what good is he.

Didn't the Islanders need to put someone on IR in order to call up a replacement for Martin's suspension?

DP is the obvious choice. Let him rest this week.

We have 4 games next week. If he can't get in any of them. Then the comments are more deserved.

Isn't this almost exactly what happened last year?

Isles reported he has swelling in the knee, nothing serious. Then a week later he was out for the season.

If DP's fans posted on other message boards:

"That Yao Ming has played on some really slippery courts, but injury prone? Pshaw."

"Well, you say Chad Pennington never makes it through the halfway mark of a season; I see a QB who REFUSES to miss an early season game no matter how far removed his shoulder is from the socket."

"Thurman Munson may never be the player he was before the plane crash, but there's no reason some mix of bone and ash can't do the job 80% as well."

"Enron stock? It's bottomed out and now's the time to buy buy buy, even if it's no longer publicly traded. Contact some ex-Enron execs and they will hook you up."

Lawson in goal should have been the alarm that this is more than "slight swelling".

DiPi's IR is retroactive to Saturday. My guess will be that Lawson and Roloson split the upcoming back-to-back. Following that, we have another set of back-to-backs.

If it really is minor, then I'm sure we'll see DiPietro on Monday against the Rags. Regardless, I'm sure the team will not be forthcoming with any news.

Sadly, the buyout talks will continue until DiPietro plays an entire season without significant problems (no matter how premature such discussion may be.) That said, since we don't know what kind of insurance is/isn't covering the latter stages of DiPi's contract, I don't think there's any reason to assume that a buyout makes fiscal sense.

,
Mitch

What have I said about SECOND 'scopes? He never should have returned to playing. He's jeopardizing his ability to WALK later in life.

But hey, we all live by these decisions. He has a cup scoped, didn't work. They take more out (and all resources point to a disc remaining) and it's hindering but modest exercise is possible. Well....maybe 6-12 games in the NHL is modest - what do I know?

If this doesn't go away, I hope he retires just to save his quality of life. Reading about this really has me worried for the guy (and I'm not fond of him from day one saying this).

ANY NHL coach and his first five goalie coaches.

I'm sick of wanting the end of the season within the first month in. I hope something can save this sinking ship.
