I would think if he without a doubt regained his form and looks to be healthy that some team would grab him..

Perhaps he just goes down to Bridgeport for the whole season and see what he has for a full season instead of hurting the Isles this season. Then if he proves he is back, he can make the Isles roster next year.
I don't think we could send him down as we would be below the salary cap floor. We would have to over pay someone to make up for DP's lost NHL salary.

If he regains form and soem team claims him call it a ******* blessing and go find another goalie.

Post-lockout NHL you don't need to invest **** into goaltending. Dudes pop up every year.

truth be told, this is really fn close to how i feel. look at the nhl, there really are only about 5-8 VERY good goalies. IF THAT indeed. The Rick was pure speculation that if he stayed healthy then he would fulfill that potential, the thing is that he was SPECTACULAR and was only a 30 game winner.

There isn't enough crack or heroine in the world for any gm to put in a claim for a goalie with that injury history and who's signed for an eternity.

If dipietro were even tried to be traded, a thrown in of Tavares and okposo wouldn't get it done.

Back to reality.

Dipietro's goal is to stay healthy and regain his form. The team must commit to helping that process, for the sake of the organization, the collective wallets and for the on-ice NYIslanders product.

The Islanders also must commit to fielding the best team they can.

What I meant was his salary would be off the "NHL" salary cap if he is in the minors. Therefore, we would be below the floor (I'm assuming). Not suggesting that someone would claim him and he'd be off our books for good.

However, I don't know what the penalty would be for being below the cap floor.

You mean they must commit to fielding the best DiPietro they can. Do you not read these boards?

The rest of the team is inconsequential until we know how Rick is going to play in a few years.

Every third game....and if he stinks in those, maybe less. He'll get practice time in between. If he gets better....more starts. Right now, he has third strong goalie numbers, and a team looking to win has to consider that.

A very unfair, but true fact:

Tim Thomas faced 185 shots and let in 3 of them.
Rick DiPietro faced 173 shots and let in 23 of them.

We have to first resign Brendan Witt for 1st pairing D, though. Otherwise, it will hurt our PR!

PR > Winning > DiPietro

How can this franchise get rid of Dipietro?

He's the worst goalie in the NHL with the worst contract. He brings this team down.

How can the Isles get rid of him?

Waive him and eat the contract.

Buy him out.

That's about it.

It would suck to have his cap hit on the books for the next 25 years. That would just give Wang another way to reach the cap floor without paying guys to actually play.

drama aside. DiPietro won't play in the NHL if he can't play better. He'll either retire or be forced to retire. That may be a hockey decision - not a contract decision.

i'm prepared to give him more time....I"m sure the team will too.

many here are calling for his head....which, fair or not, will not help the team win games. not this year anyway.

Send him to the minors and erase his cap hit, or buy him out.

No one can force him to retire. He can suck as long as he wants. Isles will be the ones who have to decide to waive/demote him or buy him out.

As fans of the team, we have every right to call for his head he has been at a beer league level this year, this is a minor league team, we are not here to develop him and nurse him back to health.

Frankly, this team is not a contender for anything but a top 5 pick. We may as well keep feeding DiPietro playing time and see if he gets better, because we're stuck with him one way or another.
