OT:Roy or Lafleur - a jersey for the brother of a Flyer fan

Sorry to invade guys/gals. I totally come in peace. My brother wants a Habs jersey for Christmas. I've narrowed it down to Roy or Lafleur. He really isn't a hockey fan and though he lives in downtown Chicago, he apparently likes the Habs. Which jersey would you pick between the two? Thanks!

As a player and not a goalie when I play hockey, I'd want Lafleur.

Goalie vs. goal scorer.

You can't go wrong with Guy, but I'd actually suggest a number with your brother's last name on it.

Both are great choices, Roy is a recognizable player from the last ten years, but at the same time, Lafleur is treated like royality in Montreal, if it was me I'd rather have lafleur

I prefer Roy. Roy was one of the top 5 in his position in history. The habs are all about goaltending!

All depends on your brothers age, if he is over 40, get Lafleur, if he is under 40 get Roy. No point in getting him a player he's never seen play.

If he's under 20, I'd consider getting a Price or Cammalleri jersey.

Haha, My brother's 30. I considered Price because I've been impressed by him this year. The way he handled the boo birds you guys dished out at the beginning of the year and the level of play he's shown is great. I honestly didn't think he had it in him and in the offseason when there were rumors the flyers were interested, I thought the boo birds here would be the end of him.

I have an alterior motive though with choosing 'old' guys. Even though my brother doesn't follow hockey, I really don't want him rockin a jersey of a current direct competitor!!

His only hockey apparel currently is Milwaukee Admirals gear cause well frankly, the Admirals logo is pretty badass

You can't go wrong with a Richard jersey. Loved by young, old, everyone.

Out of those two, go with Guy.

And Lafleur wasn't? On the most successful hockey club of all time, only Richard was arguably a better winger than Guy, and only Howe was greater in hockey history. The Habs are all about excellence in every area of hockey, you don't win 24 cups with goaltending alone.

I would go with Lafleur but you can't go wrong with Roy. Richard or Beliveau would be great if you want an even safer choice, those two are saints to Habs fans.

Well, you said he's not a really big fan and since Roy is more recent the possibility that he might not know of Lafleur is a good possibility, no ?

if it's just to have jersey go with Roy, best goalie ever and more recent

If he's really into hockey and team history everyting go with Lafleur.

I had not seen their most recent logo, but damn that is nice.

And I'd go for Roy, especially if he's 30. I'm 29 and to be honest I've seen Lafleur play for the Rangers and Nordiques as I was too young in 85 to see his last season in the habs jersey... or at least to remember it.

If it wasn't for Roy, the game wouldn't be what it is today, I'm biased though, he was a childhood hero til he broke my heart

No kidding, if I ever get a Habs Jersey and decide to go retro with the name I'll probably go with #7 Morenz. To my recollection I've never seen anyone with it, and even though I never saw him play (obviously), I also never saw anyone before the 80s play, and I think it would be a nice historical nod to a Habs OG.

You're kidding? Roy is argueably the best goalie who ever lived and you're saying lafleur is in the same position as a forward? I don't like Lafleur, but beyond that, let's be reasonable here, patrick roy to his position is far greater than Lafleur in his. I won't argue it much further to be honest.

I was picking between two evils. I'd go with Beliveau, if you wanted a classic player.

Eh. Let's just say there is still a lot of room to debate Lafleur vs Roy, and leave it as at that.

Also, I just thought of something. If it's for the brother of a Flyers' fan, get a Subban jersey.

I'd go for Roy (red jersey) for the pure aestethics -- Double digit numbers, 3-letter name, double 3s.. it's beautiful

I would guess that the name may be a bit more recognizable too in Philly.
