They seem to be guessing Leclaire will miss another 2-3 games. I could see Lehner getting a start sometime this week. Kid really needs to play.

It depends on whether they can convince themselves that a good period from Elliot = a good game and are able to disregard the weak goals and rebound control.

I wonder who's call starting Lehner would be?

Clouston's the coach but Lehner is Murray's prospect and in an ideal world he would be in Bingo right now.

Given Elliott's treatment of the puck as a live hand grenade on Saturday I'd let the kid play one game at least (Phoenix).

I'd start him Tuesday. Elliott hasn't been good in the last couple of games letting some weak goals go in every game. It's obvious the team has no confidence in their goalie and I'd like to see if Lehner could help turn things around (like Brodeur last year).

I am slowly doubting Clouston's choices. I know Elliott is his boy but when he sucks you have to go to the other goalie. What is there to lose anyway?

The way that this team has been completely crapping the bed, I don't think MGMT will feed Lehner to the lions this week. That might be counter-productive.
They will probably just be extra-ready with the hook if Elliot lets in any weak goals. That way, they only start Lehner after the team is already down by 2-3 goals so that there isn't too much pressure or expectations. I think Lehner is happy with just having actually been used in a couple games. He probably is not expecting to be the starter.

You really shouldn't be questioning Clouston's choices regarding a rookie goalie. Lehner hasn't started because he shouldn't have yet...that said it should happen within the week. And like I said, we really don't know who's call it is in regards to Lehner starting....I doubt it's 100% Clouston's call on that one.

The guy should get a game or two, because they owe it to him, it's suppose to be his development year in Bingo and playing some games there but he has been sitting on the bench doing crap all.

I meant his overall choices this year, sorry.

As for the goaltending, IMO Clouston would be the one wanting to go with Elliott and Murray wanting to go with Lehner. One game won't affect Lehner if he loses.

Could you imagine the problem it would cause if they started him and he had an outstanding game(Shutout?). And/or he went on a hot run.

Geez the pressure to keep the rookie as #1 would be unbearable!

And to send him down after that could possibly hurt his confidence.

1. True
2. Really doubt it. The guys been playing second fiddle and battling adversity since he started playing...only to become the fastest rising goalie prospect in the last couple years. The chip on his shoulder would only get bigger...seriously, it seems like this guy thrives when dealing with adversity.

Only if Elliot lets in 6+ goals in the previous group.

Give the kid a start!! He'd be solid and it would be really exciting to see!
He should get Thursday's game against Florida, that would be perfect for him.

Brodeur got sick and when he came back Leclaire was healthy to backup and Elliott was playing the best hockey of his career so far.

Thanks for the help Brodeur, but thems the breaks.

Elliott has been much better his last three games. I'd only look at starting Lehner in a back to back situation or if Elliott ***** the bed again.

No softies = Brian Elliott the quality starter. He gives you a lot of confidence with the tough stops...it's the clear shots that get taken that I immediately look to the back of the net often with my eyes beating the puck to the mesh.

Yeah he needs to work on his overall game, no question.

But at the end of the day if a goalie can finish with .920+ sv% and doesnt give up the leading goal, Im usually happy. For the softies Elliott does let in, theyre not usually a goal that gives the other team the lead.
