Ducks Regular Season Rumors

Good spot to discuss regular season rumors.

Here's one from Pierre LeBrun (ESPN):

Quote:
But the Sens GM has worked the phones hard all week long, talking to "half the teams in the league," looking for a five- or six-type defenseman to no avail so far. While Murray refused to say, another industry source told ESPN.com that Anaheim is among the teams Ottawa has spoken to. The Ducks would like to add a puck-moving type on the back end; Ottawa would like to add a rugged, defensive blueliner type. I believe the Sens would like Anaheim to take Brian Lee off their hands, but the Ducks might have more interest in Chris Campoli. At this point there doesn't seem to be a fit between both teams.

The Ducks, by the way, have also been in talks with the Buffalo Sabres, another source said.

Meh, interesting that the Ducks are still in the market, then again I think we are always in the market.

I think we should still make a strong push for Kevin Bieksa.

What needs to be done would be a major overhaul of the bottom 6/defense. Something I just don't see happening mid season. All the fixes Murray will try to make will most likely be quick fixes that destroys the one thing the Ducks seem to have going for them which is prospect depth.

The team is better off just riding this thing out. I don't see how trading with Ottawa who is terrible as well is going to solve any of this teams problems.

Glad to hear at least we're trying to get stuff done.

Probably just false hope but still. Good.

When I read that, I was so disappointed. I thought he said we were in the market for Jason Spezza. That would've been awesome.

Beleskey-Getzlaf-Perry
Ryan-Spezza-Sexton
Blake-Koivu-Selanne
Marchant-Chipchura-Parros

That looks fine, like a fine woman

This just in: Murray on the lookout for cheap aging vets with borderline NHL talents and busted former 1st round picks.

Kuba for Sutton...

It would probably be Brookbank going the other way if Anaheim is involved so I wouldn't expect anything great coming back.

No shock that Murray is looking to trade toughness on D
He needs to right a book on how to dismantle a Stanley Cup championship team

Burke seems better off writing that book.

Please be Brookbank being the major part going.

We can tout that he has the special power of always looking clean shaven.

I would guess Carter is in the mix also. I honestly believe that's why he has been getting a lot of playing time lately. I think they are trying to get interest in him.

I'm interested in what we're interested in. I'm almost sure it'd be an offensive defenseman or maybe even a defensively reliable bottom six forward that could provide offense.

Last year everyone on this site wanted to have Brookbank traded.

After Scotty announced his retirement and we traded Wiz, everyone on this site said it was essential for us to sign Brookbank. We were all ecstatic when Murray signed him to a two year contract.

Now everyone wants him traded again.

This has become a love-hate relationship.

Please give him time to adjust to the fact that we have had a major turnover with our defense. Aside from Vishnofsky we do not have any other returning defensemen.

I'll take the GM that recognizes a weakness and aggressively makes an attempt to correct it

(For the record:
Brookbank: Signed on June 06, 2010.
Wisniewski: Traded July 30, 2010.)

I agree with everything you posted... Burke put all of this teams assets into winning a cup. In the process of winning a cup he ruined this team. Murray is trying to build this team back up with youth. If he is successful this team can be a winner for several years. I'm glad Burke is gone so Toronto can keep feeding his ego...

Being forced to replace future hall of famers with plugs to try and stay competitive wasn't really his fault.

You act like Burke left nothing. He left Getzlaf and Perry signed to reasonable contracts, Ryan, Hiller, Pronger, Niedermayer, Pahlsson, Moen etc. The only burdensome contracts he left Murray were Giguere's and Bertuzzis buyout cap hit of $1.3M.

Murray used plenty of the assets Burke left to restock the prospect pool. I'm sure if Burke were still here we may not have quite the prospect pool we have now but we would also have Chris Pronger and other established players who have actually earned their spot in the NHL instead of simply impressing at lower levels. I know this is a hockeysfuture messageboard but the value placed on having a good prospect pool is ridiculous, half of our top 10 prospects will likely never pan out, not everyone turns out like Getzlaf, Perry & Ryan have.

And I believe Scotty announced his retirement after Brookbank re-signed as well. Also, I don't remember all these calls for Brookbank to be traded last year at all.

Why would anyone say Brookbank should be traded last season? He was performing fine last year. If you didn't think he could keep it up (like I did), then let him play out his contract and then let him walk.
