Rolston is skating again, which means that we're going back to salary cap hell soon enough.
So who's got a one-way from Newark Liberty?
Lou is nuts if he moves Zubrus, unless he gets a superb return (which I cannot see happening.)
I'm simply not on the anti-Clarkson bandwagon. He is a limited player, but take him away and your top nine collectively is soft as a pillow, what with the vets preserving their bodies from much contact and the boards lately, and the rest simply more finese in nature.
I also am not a Langenbrunner hater, at least certainly not based on stuff like his quotes and facial expressions. That's superficial, IMO. I am, however, unimpressed with his play. Vets often sleepwalk through the first several months of a marathon season (preserving the body), but I sense a potential decline in the player, as in: long-term/permanent.
Problem is, the rest of the league sees same, which means you will be getting little, if you can move him. If you could get a 2nd rounder for him, you consider it.
You can forget about Elias; no one is going to take on that contract at this point. Ditto Rolston, of course. Arnott, possibly, but that would be defeating the purpose of acquiring him a scant few months back.
Just my opinion.

So basically what you're saying is we're screwed... Awesome!
As for Clarkie, He shouldn't be in the top 9 anyway. I think you could put Pelley in his place and not only would you not miss a beat, you'd probably have more offensive chances, more physicality, and fewer stupid penalties.
No, I believe that Zach Parise is a franchise-type player. I think Backes and Johnson are good, but I wouldn't give up Zach Parise for them. Sorry. If the Blues called with that trade offer, I'm 99% sure Lou would laugh and hang up the phone.

Erik Johnson is a phenomenal player. Backes is a good player too. Obviously Parise for any of those guys straight up, I wouldn't do. But Parise for both, I pull the trigger.
Burke might still like Jamie, and Clarkson is an Ontario boy. Maybe we can swing a 2nd and a good prospect for them? Toronto also needs forwards pretty badly.
Just a thought: Could Lou trade Parise for a good goalie to replace Marty and to bolster up our defense? Now that we've got Kovy, we actually could afford trading Parise away for a ridiculous price, of course. And seeing our problems in the defensive end are alarming, i think we should consider this option. With Parise we could actually get a lot.
[EDIT:] Not right away but for the future, say we dont make the playoffs or something.
Lou MUST improve this Defense before the playoffs begin, why not start now? Trade Jamie Langenbrunner along with a promising younger prospect for an NHL ready defenseman! Langs is an awful captain and seeing his play over the year makes me think he's not happy here anymore, let the guy get his change of scenery while we acquire a much needed NHL D-man.
This thread starts and ends with either Clarkson or Langenbrunner. Hopefully it is the guy wearing the C. The way he is playing, you could mean it stands for clown.
Trading Parise for a goalie is silly. Marty is still Marty, and good goalies are available in abundance these days.
Yeah, youre right, the goalie market is awfully deflated at the moment. Guys like Antti Niemi or Niittymäki should be enough, if we bolster up the defence enough. I think we could easily lessen our LW depth and fix our defence with one swing just by trading parise. One of the most valuable young players on the market. Why not? I mean with crappy defense, Parise better notch 2-3 goals per game in order to help the team more..

We do need to fix our defence, but I don't think trading Parise is the way to do it.
Also, 2-3 goals per game? Those are expectations he can't possibly live up to. Even Ovechkin doesn't score that much.
There isn't going to be an even trade at the end of this... and the NDJ will get screwed one way or another. The rest of the teams in the east are contempt watching the Devils go to hell. One way or another the Devils are going to have to lose value, whether they like it or not. Teams aren't going to make a capspace trade for an overpaid third or fourth liner. New Jersey is in a DESPERATE situation. Desperate teams never win trades, or come close to even on trades for than matter. Clarkson won't cut it.

Look at you all high and mighty. You guys look so cute at the top of the conference.
There will be no screwing. The Devils don't need to make a trade to get out of cap hell.

This seems to be the only reasonable post on here. No one is going to give up a 2nd round pick for an over the hill player making nearly $3 million ESPECIALLY when NJ is going to be desperately trying to make a trade. No GM is going to say, sure we'll give you equal value (which I'm not even sure a 2nd would be equal value for Langenbrunner) knowing that if we don't make this trade you will be forced to waive some one. All the cards are in the hands of the other GM in this situation, and no matter how badly you don't want it to happen, the Devils will likely walk away from any trade they make with little to nothing (unless they trade a desirable like Parise or Zajac, which they probably won't).

Always a joy to hear from the Flygirl faithful... Thanks for the welcome insight!
Actually, due to fact that we have a mountain of high priced players still on LTIR, we are roughly a month (or more) from having to even consider making a move, and even then it will not need to be a lopsided situation against the team, as we can just "Matvichuk" Bryce Salvador for the season and we are pretty much cap compliant.
But again, warms the heart when you Harrisburg folk come join in on the conversation. God Bless You!!! And welcome to the Internet!
