FZ's Combinations To Watch

Quote:
Kris Letang and Paul Martin over nine games have combined for 15 points, 3 goals and 12 assists. Part of this production can be looked at with the injury of Zbynek Michalek and Brooks Orpik providing a chance for the two to be paired together. Also due to this Kris Letang has jumped onto the first Power Play unit. Paul Martin since coming to Pittsburgh has played steady and smart hockey, and Kris Letang seems to have pure motivation and confidence to progress his game a notch higher so far this season. With Brooks Orpik back in the line up and being practiced with Alex Goligoski, until Zbynek Michalek returns to the line up it is reasonable to believe that the Paul Martin and Kris Letang pairing will stick together. Which if they can play as they have lately, we should be very excited about. In this match up if both of these players can play the smart yet aggressive game they have played thus far in the season that has given them success both individually and as a pairing, giving rebounds and good outlet passes we should have a good shot at the 2 points.

Quote:
Martin St. Louis, Steven Stamkos, and Steve Downie over eight games have combined for 30 points, 13 goals and 17 assists. Stamkos has started off this season with the same exact energy and production he closed out last season when spitting the scoring honors with Sidney Crosby. Downie has been forechecking pest making space for both of St Louis and Stamkos to assault the goalie with scoring chances, Downie himself has gotten 2 goals of the lines 13. Not a major number, but providing the role he has and still potting two goals is notable. Stamkos on the Power Play is deadly and has shown both last season and without stopping this season he can score from anywhere on the ice. This combined with St. Louis crafty play and speed we know well from the past has created a very successful line for Tampa Bay. Beating the Lightning will come from shutting down this line and staying off of the Penalty Kill, if we take to many penalties we will be ice skating up hill in this match.

Man, look at their top-6. Wish we had support like that for our stars.

Quite a testament to their offense that Smith is 4-0-0 with a brutal GAA and SV%.

To be fair, that Lecavalier contract is... WOW... Bad. And Stamkos on his EL is 3.725M and is on his contract year. If he has a year like he has last season, or even close. Tampa will be in cap hell resigning him. They do have 11M in cap space, even right now...

But they have 6 RFA's and 4 UFA's to resign just on the current NHL roster. On their AHL roster they have 14 RFA contracts to resign and 4 UFA's. Who knows who they will promote out of that AHL roster. But they will be in some cap straights in the realm of Pittsburgh, maybe slightly worse next season.

But yes, that is a very fantastic T6, for this season. Steve Y has a raw team he can turn some heads with hopefully this season. Maybe not playoffs (unless its the bottom 4), but I hope for great things for Steve Y with that team.

Do they think they're the freaking 1985 Oilers or something?

Yea who are they? Really Stamkos has just been a beast. 8 goals in 8 games for a 15 point total... Jesus...

Yeah, Stamkos is a freak. Wish Sid or Geno had a player like St. Louis on their wing. Downie is turning into a good hockey player as well, even if he is a dirty little **** Pens will have their hands full with that line.

Don't have a great feeling about this game. We always seem to struggle against Tampa.

I hate Downie, I have a massive disliking for him. But the guy is a ***** to play against and in a comparison is predicted to evolve into a Kunitz like player with a higher scoring ability. Thats a tough ***** to have in your T6. One of those guys you loathe to play against, but love to have on your team.

True words. But you should know that feeling (Matt Cooke).

Nice GDT. This game should be very interesting. Our offense against a red hot Brent Johnson, the scoring duel between Stamkos and Crosby and the battle for #1 in the East. I'm also looking forward to see Letestu and Malkin in action - or rather not.

Here's to a good one!

I will be at a buddies house but i have a bad feeling about this game. I think it ends 4-2 for the Bolts....Stammer only gets 1 goal, though.

Wonder if Flower gets another shot tonight? Regardless, we're probably going to need at least 4 goals to win this one. Geno and Sid better be on.

Wow, great GDT.

I'm really looking forward to this match-up. Both teams should be well rested (though the Bolts are a bit nicked up) and ready to go. Watching Crosby/Malkin is always a treat though I'd prefer they have a quiet game this evening. In any case, possibility for tons of offensive fireworks.

I'll wish you guys good luck the rest of the season (after this game of course).

The same goes for Stamkos/MSL.

Anyhow, I haven't been this excited for a game in a while.

I'm bored and I can't help myself...

If we had a rounded out lineup like this, would Bylsma be juggling lines as much?

Yes, probably to try to jumpstart Gagne and Lecavalier.

Not as much, but I'm sure you'd see Purcell or Adam Hall popping up in the top 6 every time Bergenheim or Downie had a bad shift.

By the way, is it confirmed Johnson is playing as the OP says? I would be surprised.

Serious withdrawals since I didn't even get to see the Blues game. But I'm not sure I want to see the game, I have a bad feeling about this. I am excited to see Asham play though.

That's pushing it. Adam Hall's good for what he is, but I mean, come on.

Even then, you'd still be sending out two pretty good duos (and Gagne's not even listed there) with support players who just need to be competent. We don't even have a single good duo right now except for Geno and UNDRAFTED ROOKIE.

As for the goaltending, I haven't read a single confirmed link, but I mean I dont' think he's making it up.

You act like were the New Jersey Devils or something dude. Most of, the signings we made this past offseason were all 2 year or 1 year deals. So they come off the books in a year or two, freeing up even more room. We have ONE bad contract (but if Vinny steps it up some, it isn't as bad), yet were going to be in cap hell this next offseason because we have to re-sign Stamkos (and perhaps Gagne) and few bottom 6/Norfolk players? Stamkos might even take a discount to stay, considering he has it good playing with St. Louis and Downie, and St. Louis recently signing an extension. Mike Smith in all likelihood will not be re-signed barring a major breakout season for him this year.

But ok, cap hell. Got it.
