Penner

Oiler fan coming in peace. Rangers are second favorite team since the Oilers won a cup for them in '94!

OK, the Oilers are deep on left wing, short on top D and #1C. I covet Staal, starting with Penner what does it take to get him. Is Penner/Brule in the ballpark? Peener/Chorney??

lulz.

Edit: To answer, no, none of those are even close. How about Eberle and Smid (for starters)?

We are in the exactly same situation my friend. Let it ride, you guys have a serious team brewing without any trades.

nothing.

its not a fit. rangers arent trading marc staal...unless someone offers em Sidney Crosby or AO...hes just too important to this team. no way will we trade him, and hes got a good contract, unlike penner.

Well I did not realize that Staal was worth AO, sorry for wasting your time. Parade down Broadway in June, see you there.

Okay, that's not what he said. He said that the Rangers wouldn't trade Staal unless he went in a deal that brought back a top star. That's not to say that he's all that's required to bring back a top star - just that the Rangers would have no interest in trading him UNLESS it was in such a deal.

Taylor Hall.

Sorry, but asking for a 23 year old #1 shut down defenseman, locked up on a great contract, in exchange for Penner is awful.

The discussion starts with one of Hall or Eberle.

The deal you proposed wouldn't be nearly enough.
MPS or Eberle plus a first. Sorry but you aren't taking our best defender for table scraps.

I'd have a tough time trading Staal regardless of who's coming back in the deal. 23 y/o stud shutdown defenders aren't exactly falling out of the sky.

Staal fills a big hole in this organizations roster. Moving him makes no sense, unless we're getting a quality+ dmen back, on top of some sort of overpayment to make it worth our while. Basically, a sick overpayment which I don't see happening.

Way to get on our good sides around here.

Now slowly turn and head back to your board.

Seriously, I am a Rangers fan ( second to the Oil ) and you have to admit that '94 team was pretty deep with Oilers

When the Rangers win again I will be there on Broadway cheering as it's a short train ride on the Metro North.

I do not think Penner is table scraps but we are very deep on the left side so he is most likely the guy not here when we start to compete in a few years.

It's is completely crazy to think we would trade either Hall or Eberle or our 1st in 2011, from a marketing standpoint that would be suicide.

You guys are a lot closer to competing than the Oil, I thought a 30 goal scorer would help.

There's a reason our mid-90's teams were called "Edmonton East." It's my theory that he (The Baffoon from Banf-f-f) was offered life-time employment for hand-delivering our 94 SC.

You are correct, Penner is NOT table scraps, but we've been burdened for so long with overpaid up & down mercenaries that many of us prefer to "grow our own."

Agree also that the Oilers would be nuts to trade away any of Hall, MPS or Eberle (who I think is WAY overated, but a nice prospect nonetheless).

Anyways, you're always welcome to drop by and "chew the fat" on our board.

this year scoring hasnt really been our problem its been our defense
not to mention penner has topped 30 goals once and 63 points....

may as well have kept zherdev if we were gonna go after this guy

Then it's completely crazy that you would think you'd get staal. He'd be your teams best defender. And sather is awesome at trades. You'd have to give up a lot whether you want to believe that or not.

Exactly. To fill the hole up front, but creating a hole in the back...(LOL)

(As a true possibiliy, as OV is untouchable...)I want Penner more than anyone for this team right now. But not if it would make us worse.

Would something like Penner and Whitney for Frolov and Staal be more realistic?

NO, it would not!

Jesus H. Christ.

Staal will not be traded any time soon.

If you wanna speak hypothetically, it starts with Hall or Eberle, plus Smid and then you still have to add a proven roster player like a Penner.

Staal for [Eberle or Hall], Penner, Smid is a deal I'd do. But would Edmonton? Of course not. Both teams are still building and are in the right direction finally. Neither team is going to trade a key piece right now. Staal is our best d-man. He's 23 and has a great contract for 4 more years. You cannot have him for pieces that you don't really need. Think McFly, think.
