im not sure how high edmonton values penner? considering where they are right now id think they would be looking for younger players/prospects/picks.

what about sjostrom + caputi + gunnarson + maybe a late pick?

kulemin bozak kessel
penner grabs versteeg
mac brent armstrong
brown zig orr
Hm, maybe if you make Caputi a defensive prospect. We actually have enough offensive prospects.

But why not Armstrong? I mean you can then move MacArthur down two the third line to take Armstrongs place.

You can also have Cogs in that deal. I know he isn't playing very good currently, but I don't really believe in Brent beeing able to keep that level.

Are you looking for a defensive defenceman or offensive defenceman prospect? We don't have a ton of d prospects but for the right piece they'd be willing to move most likely any of them. I think the earliest they'd move Armstrong is in the off season and maybe at the deadline. Just on principle. IMO we won't want Cogs coming back in any deal. He doesn't bring anything we don't currently have. We couldn't however add a pick to any trade. We're missing enough of them as it is even with this being a weak draft year we need to keep some of them.

If we wait until the end of the season to trade Penner, I don't think we'll get much for him. He looks like he's back to his lazy floating self again. He just looks so uninterested every shift.

This has been done too many times and the result is always the same.

Oilers fans want a high price for Penner.

Leaf fans don't want to pay that price for a player that could easily turn back on his disappearing act he showed in 2008-2009 once he gets to Toronto.

I think the Oilers and Leafs make good trade partners when it comes to Penner.

I don't Burke gives a flying crap about what he said about Penner three years ago the same way he didn't seem to give a crap about his position on offer sheets when he used the threat of one to leverage the Kessel deal.

In terms of players, I think Penner fits the description of what the Leafs need and the Leafs have an abundance of what the Oilers need.

The Oilers need legit NHLers that are bottom 6 forwards and NHL experienced/ready stay at home defencemen. Both of which the Leafs seem to have a surplus of. I don't even think they have to be of prospect age, just under 30. Penner's age give or take.

Of course not. Why would you want good forwards? Penner would be your second best forward if you got him, behind only Kessel.

Penner -

Sjostrom LW (rental pker, does his job very well)
+ Gunnarson D (best +/- last year on team, but has a slow start this year)
+ Peter Mueller LW (big body forward, already has the skills for the nhl just needs to put it together)

Of all the reasons that deal would not go through, Finger getting claimed, even at half price, is not one of them.

As bad as he is, I would be interested in Komisarek. Not straight up, Toronto would have to sweeten the pot.

Komisarek+Brown+???
for
Penner+Cogliano

take out cogs and switch brown with someone like mitchell or a prospect and it's doable

Brown is the insurance policy so that when orr is off the ieams can't take shots at Kessel or bozak or versteeg

Gunnarsson is the perfect starting point for any trade between these two involving Penner.

I would do Penner + Cogliano for Phaneuf at the deadline if Dion cannot find his offense in Toronto.

I understand that Burke can't make that move now, he has to give Phaneuf some time, but if it's still not working by the deadline and it looks like Kaberle is willing to sign an extension anyway ... there ya go.

Toronto needs forwards, the Oilers need defense, being back in the NW division I think will help Phaneuf.
