Your not helping the argument. My point was the Penner that the Leafs would get would ultimately determine the outcome of the deal. Would the Leafs get the 30 goal scorer or the guy who can't even 40 points? All you have done here is prove that Penner is very inconsistent from season to season and that definitely would not make a general manager comfortable "buying high" on him.

Maybe "special" wasnt the right choice of word, but I think he will be a good top 6 guy one day

Possibly but I see him more of a third line guy with the likes of Hanson/Caputi/Ryan

You really think that Burke is going to trade Phaneuf's partner (at a reasonable salary) for a player under a contract that he spent the better part of 2 years lashing out against?

not only do I think he'd consuder the trade but like I said before I think if he could he'd give Penner that contract today

Well then you're out to lunch. Brian Burke, for better or worse, is one of the league's most stubborn GMs when it comes to admitting he's wrong. When you spend 2 years publically beradign Kevin Lowe for grossly overpaying Dustin Penner, you're not going to trade for Penner under that same contract. If Burke hadn't been through the whole ordeal with Penner / Lowe, then I'm sure he'd give Penner that contract today, but this is one example where there's realistically no way Brian Burke willingly backs down from his position.
