TB - Michael Vernace (D) on waivers

Quote:
Per TSNBobMcKenzie twitter
Tampa Bay puts Michael Vernace on waivers.
6'2" 200 lbs @ $500k. Final year of his deal.

Borderline NHLer, primarily a puck moving defensemen. I assume he clears.

Any insight Lightning fans?

With Ohlund back now this was expected.

He's ok if you need a call up from the AHL, but not much more than that.

Take what Avs fans said about Clark (He's been great) and what King fans said about Jones (So-so), apply it to Vernace and they would be right.

Surprised he was even in the NHL, the guy is below average at best.

I think he was a favourite of Bouchers from Hamilton.

It will only take time before Jones shows how crappy he defense play will become.

He was a 3rd pairing guy in Hamilton last year and even with a couple of notable injuries. I can't believe he was on an NHL roster this year.

I know he burnt you all bad in the playoffs, but hes a 6th defenseman with us right now, and considering it is going to be a successful season if we just make the playoffs, I think we are safe

If a Kings fan said Jones was only so-so, they're just dumb. He was absolutely awful for us. People wanted Denis Gauthier back over this scrub.

He was....in our system. Not sure how your guys' system is but he just didn't fit in our. He was given so many chances and never did anything.

This.

This again. He was good the first few games with us....then he started sucking horribly.

No. If you make it to the playoffs, he'll try to make a head man pass at his blue line, turn it over, let in a breakaway, and that guy will score, causing you to lose the game. History repeats itself.

Jones has been so-so. Avs and King fans have tried to make Clark and Jones out to be the worst players in history while Clark has been great and Jones has been about what you expect for a 6th defenseman. Maybe Boucher knows how to use them or maybe they were just scapegoats last season, either way Vernace was the one who was horrible.

Like I said, if he makes it to the playoffs playing the way he is now it will be a successful season.

I haven't seen Randy Jones be as completely useless and awful as all the Kings fans had made him out to be. I think its more of a testament to your coach, playing him more minutes than he should have. Why was he even out there in the OT of Game 1? And like other posters have said, we also heard how awful Purcell and Clark were too, and the both of them have been some of our best players on the team this season. Really the same for Halpern, he was an OK forward with us, then didn't do **** in LA, now is off to a good start in Montreal.

Sometimes perhaps its you (the team), and not the player. Its rare occasions yes, but it does happen.

Flyer fan coming into to say; we also told LA that Jones sucked, which they then took same stand point Tampa fans are now.

It is only time.

I will for sure not defend Jones, he is is a safety risk and I rather give that sixth spot to a younger guy. I have seen him start off well in other clubs so im just waiting for him to crumble

It was a 1-year deal. It'd be odder if it wasn't.
