I agree that Couturier is more on the level of Staal, Hall, and Seguin than Malkin or Crosby, we can could still definitely use that. Stamkos was projected to be the worst forward picked 1st overall to come along in 5 years at the time, and look at him. You never know.
I disagree with the Stamkos assessment and I did at the time too. I know what you mean about him though, but he was just super skinny. The talent was undeniable though. The only reason he was overshadowed was because people were so excited about Tavares going first overall. Stamkos looked like a hell of a player/first liner when he was picked first, but people were talking about Tavares as following Ovie and Crosby. I definitely think Kane or Staal were considered worse first overall picks than Stamkos when he was picked. Also, Stamkos was the surefire #1 overall but like I said, he was overshadowed because of Tavares.
nice goal by higgins...he is trying to stay out of the press box...
This reminds me of the token goal by Weiss late in the third when we were getting killed the other night. I knew someone would score a "too little too late" goal tonight. Figures it was Higgins with his first.
It's the Q, it's not THAT impressive, at least stats-wise. He's barely leading his team and an undrafted 19 year old is essentially tied with him. I know two years is a big difference but he's no Stamkos, Crosby, Ovie, Malkin, or Kane (I know most people aren't).
I will say that his size and hands are intruiging. He could potentially be a Lecavalier type player IMO but I really wish he was a terrific skater. Size isn't as important in the new NHL, especially recently, so I'd be inclined to look at RNH more this year when prior to 05, I would have gone Couturier 100%.
And I do know the Q has become less offensive over the last few years. He's doing well but I don't see him as surefire superstar.
It's impressive, he doesn't have a lot of help this season like he did the last couple. He's basically carrying Drummondville right now. Two years is a big difference, look at Garrett Wilson, he's 19 and he's leading the OHL in scoring.
The OHL has been a more offensive league than the Q the last 2 years, it's not a high-flying league anymore. Couturier's skating is underrated. He's no speed demon, but there's no problem at all with his skating. This is just a label that's stuck with him since his rookie year. For a big man, he's a very good skater.
If two guys are equal in talent, I will take the bigger guy everytime. Couturier is a more complete player as well. He's just a safer prospect than RNH at this time. Right now, Couturier is almost a slam dunk for stardom. RNH is still a bit of a question mark IMO.
