Hopefully Versteeg is back in tomorrow, can't take much more Mitchell bashing.

Versteeg May Need MRI on Troubled Back

Quote:
The power-play has stumbled along in addition the offense though and is just 1-16 in the last four games. If Versteeg is unable to play Saturday, Luca Caputi will take his place on the second line alongside Mikhail Grabovski and Clarke MacArthur, while John Mitchell will play the right side with Tim Brent and Fredrik Sjostrom.

Unfortunate to see that Versteeg might be out, but Caputi getting a chance in the top-six is great. I don't want Mitchell anywhere near the top-six, though I don't mind giving him a chance in the bottom six.

Hope Verbeauty is back tomorrow. But at the same time I don't mind seeing Caputi in a top 6 role. King Henrik will play I assume and a big body like Caputi may help considering we know he wants to go hard to the net. Could really help the 2nd PP unit by standing infront to.

At the same time I want Versteeg back in the lineup because although he hasn't produced much his talent is obviously there. He brings some dynamics into the offense that we might not get from others.

I think the leafs have legitimate chances to win the next 2 games. But after that, the schedule will get tough and I dont know what will happen. Starting out 7-3-1 would be great.

If Caputi continues his play from the preseason and remains up here, I wouldn't mind seeing a top six of

Kulemin - Bozak - Kessel
Caputi - Grabovski - Versteeg

when Versteeg returns.

How do you demote the second leading goal scorer on a team with scoring problems?

I'm not really a MacArthur fan, but I really have to agree. Caputi had one good game. Sure I want to see what he can do, but you don't take someone out of the top-6 who's hot, and can actually score.

You don't. You would absolutley kill the guys confidence. If Ron did that even I would be calling for his head. And I don't usually call out coaches. It will not happen though... I seriously hope.

In order to spread out some scoring. Brent and Sjostrom get some opportunities but have next to no finish, having MacArthur on the line might help. It's just an experiment to see if it might help our anemic offense. It also gives the second line a big body who goes to the net, works in the corners and isn't a bad passer in Caputi.

Edit: I just wanted to point out that I said if Caputi remains on the Leafs and continues to play well.

You know MacArthur is our best forward not named Kessel so far. Easily.

Honestly, I don't really think so. You don't notice him at ALL unless he scores. He's our new Stempniak, and I think he's really going to start slowing down.

You are definitley entitled to your opinion and I respect that. But I respectfully disagree. MacArthur is not really a flashy player. I think he is best suited to play off skilled offensive players. Work the dirty goals and go to the net. Now I am not saying Caputi can not do that because he can. But I think that MacArthur would not really be able to do what he does best with Brent and Sjostrom.

rocket, we don't really need it that quickly --enjoy the party.

Sometime around noon is fine, that's what these PRE-Game threads are for.

I don't mind when he's scoring at the goal per game pace right now.

Stempniak was invisible until he score. Big difference was he never scored.

I thought he played well against Florida and he never scored... Stempniak had no finish and almost always missed the net high and wide and McArthur seems to atleast some finish.

Versteeg has been doing alot of nothing to the tune of a goal,a assist, and a minus 4 to this point.Maybe he should stop acting like a clown, and play some hockey like we expected when we got him.

Frankly, i believe this is one of those so called "statement games".

We are at home and slumping.

We are facing a team that has some serious injuries.

Gaborik is every bit as important to the NYR as Kessel is to us.

Prospel was their 2nd leading scorer last year and Drury, like em or hate em he is still a very solid 2 way C.

OK! Steeg and Army are missing, but i can't say that either has done anything outstanding this year that makes me mourn their injuries. OK maybe Army a little.

We better win this one or i fear that we are in for a very painful and disheartening stretch.

these leafs games of late have been really boring

seems like we won more playing run and gun..

how about run and gun to get the 1st goal
then play defense ??
