Eric Godard

OMG ANOTHER PENS THREAD!!!!!

Pens don't need him anymore, any team in need of a top 5 fighter? Pens could give him to you for a pick. Now that we know Eng can take on heavyweights and win and play much better, we really don't need him taking up cap space that we could use.

Keep in mind what Godard makes, and what teams have recently paid for Boogard and Shelley.

You might get lucky and have a team claim him on waivers.

2010/02/12 - San Jose Sharks traded Jody Shelley to the New York Rangers for a sixth-round (or conditional fifth-round) draft pick in 2011.

I'd be thrilled if a team took Godard on waivers. I don't think they would, though. Re-entry might give it a chance, and I really wouldn't mind just paying the 400K or so on his cap hit if he got claimed there.

It also doesn't mean that no GM is, and all it takes is one.

Honestly, after the contracts given out to Boogard and Shelley this year, there's no reason to think that there wouldn't be a potential market for an enforcer like Godard with a contract like Godard's.

I hope we keep him. We seem to lose when he's not in the lineup. When he's in the lineup, he sees 3 minutes and Sid and Geno take his spot on the fourth line.

IMO, the lineup works better when he's in, than when he's not.

If Godard is up for trade I'm sure there are a few teams out there willing to give up a draft pick for one of the top enforcers in the league.

I remember this guy, he always used to beat around our team and no one would stick up for anyone. Disaster, would love to have a guy like Godard but we arguably have a good as fighter in SMac.

The real question is... what will the Pens give us to take Godard?

The guy is a good enforcer. He knows his job and does it. These guys are worthless in the eyes of fans, but there are GM's that believe in having an enforcer and one of those GM's could give up a late pick for the guy. Enforcers have been traded before and will be again.

Why would the Pens give anything?

He's effective in his role, and if they were so inclined, they could just send him to the minors.

I would trade John Scott and a 4th rounder for Godard.

This is what you get for signing a pure enforcer to a multi-year contract. No pity for the Pens in this regard.

Best bet is to waive him and have a team pick him up on re-entry for half his salary.

Unless there is a team out there w/o a legit HW that has its star players get run by a division/conference rival.
