Overall I think they are playing pretty well considering they dont have Gaborik.

Dubinsky-. It definately feels like this is Dubi's breakout year. He started it last year and he continuing to get better.

Anisimov- he improved his skating and he just looks much more confident. He is going to be a very good player.

Callahan- looks the same to me. Only difference is he is playing with better offensive players instead of being paired with Drury. He is starting to rack up more points. He's the future captain. Only knock on him is he is probably getting the best & most high quality chances on the team you wish he could bury some of them.

Avery- is playing well, he is skating harder than last year and is great from behind the net.

Frolov- has been average.

Christensen- Dont know how he got a 2 year deal. He has been typical Christensen. Makes a couple of nice passes and has a good game than will be invisible for the next 5 games.

Staal- He hasnt looked good, Girardi and Rozsival have been the better defensemen. Maybe he is just a slow starter?

Stepan & Del Zotto are very talented young players they will have there ups and downs throughout the season.

Plus

- Offense;

Still scoring goals without our big gun.

- Henrik Lundqvist

Minus

- The Defense;

Sloppiness and inconsistency, leaving the goalie out to dry. Girardi is the only one who's been steady.

- Special teams look like **** for the most part.

Sounds like Frolov alright.

Unfortuneatly, 4 month from now -- I am pretty certain how it will look... Kids develop well when they are put in perfect positions. We have a lot of good positions on this team, but if we rely on Dubi, Ani, Stephan, Callahan and co too much -- the s will hit the fan.

The season have barely started, and they had a complete meltdown late last night.
True that. We all have opinions.

That said Ola, is Jordan Eberle being placed into a situation that is better than the Rangers youngsters are? John Tavares? Taylor Hall? They seem to be developing just fine on terrible teams that are very young. The blanket statement about needing vets is incorrect. We have endured years and years of dependence on "veteran leadership" resulting in missed playoffs and embarrassing performance. There is zero evidence that good players will underachieve due to their early introduction into an NHL lineup. Skinner, at age 18 seems to be doing well too, don't you think? The NHL has changed......it is a kids league now. Vets are now 27 year old players with 6 years in the league. It really is all about TALENT and ABILITY. Slats has done a dreadful job (until the last few years) of stocking the club with talent. Instead, he has signed big money deals for underachieving veterans. Those days are over in NY (hopefully). They are certainly over around the rest of the NHL.

Pros:

-Lots of hustle from this team, they aren't slackers like in years past (Bye Redden)

-Redden is gone

Cons:

-Defense stinks. All of the pairings are bumped up one level than they belong.
Staal is a 2/3 D....Girardi is a 4...Rozy is a 4...Del Zotto might turn into a 2 but he should be a 3rd pairing now...Gilrow+Emminger are 7th Dmen.

Couldn't let this one get away with noticing that MDZ was excellent last night. Again, he's inconsistent but he remains a 20 year old NHL defenseman with a huge ceiling who has taken a big step forward this year. Much room to grow but much already traveled.

Staal is a first pair defensemen when he gets goin. Girardi and Rozy are both very good second pairings, and have both been playing like first liners. MDZ has been better defensively and has to work on it still.
It just shows how important Drury is to the PK, people might not like his contract, but we need him back.
