Carcillo is not a Top 9 player, and a Top 9 player was scratched last night. Nodl moved up, so there was a spot for Carcillo. In actuality, Nodl and Carcillo are the two who are fighting each other for playing time, and Nodl has been playing well even strength, at least according to the coach, and kills the odd penalty.

Carcillo is good enough to be a top 9 player... just not when you're trying to have a 3rd line geared purely towards being a scoring line.
Well if it's not that, then you're looking to your 3rd line to be a pure shutdown line, and Carcillo is not that type of player either.
Your 3rd line doesn't need to be a pure shutdown line (there are very few of those in the NHL), but if you're looking for more of a two-way/energy line that plays competent D, and tallies a few goals here and there... Carcillo is fine on that. That's essentially what the Carcillo-Betts-Lappy line was last year minus the offense (you need a center with a bit more than Betts for that) last year. They were getting a lot more minutes, and were a lot more effective than a traditional mucker 4th line.
This is what I am hoping it is and not because the coach just doesn't want to play him. He isn't a top 9 forward but he is a pretty awesome pest and fits well with our 4th line. Our 4th line should be Shelley/Betts/Carcillo with Jvr, Giroux or whoever is playing well take some shifts away from Shelley later in the game.

He absolutely is a Top 9 player. The problem is that he isn't a Top 9 player on the Flyers, the way it is structured currently. We have too many talented forwards for Carcillo to have a spot in the Top 9.
I dont see why Carcillo-Betts-Powe/Nodl cant just be our 4th line. Carcillo brings so much more to the table than Shelley...
I'm hoping, at the very least, we see this in the playoffs. Shelley has no business playing a single shift in the playoffs. Cote was scratched, so Shelley better be as well.
