Cory Schneider

What kind of goalie is this guy and what would the asking price be for the Pens to inquire about him?

Probably more than the Pens would like to pay. I am not a big fan of Fleury, but they have him locked up and Schneider is not a sure thing.
Why pay value for him?

It's more just inquiring then asking. I'm not ready to give up Fleury just yet but just incase.

Top flight AHL'er.

One of Malkin or Crosby and a first round pick.

Or failing that at least what Burkie obtained when he moved Ilya Bryzgalov.

I'd do Crosby+1st for Schneider. Sounds like a really good fair trade for both sides.

Schneider won't be traded this season, but might be had in the offseason for a first round pick.

But I think that the Canucks probably intend to keep him for the remainder of his contract. He's a nice piece of insurance. This could change though depending on how Lack progresses.

Yup. I see Schneider fetching a 1st rounder between picks 10-20 if he continues to develop. I'd be perfectly fine keeping him as backup for another year or two, though. He's an incredible insurance policy to Luongo.

Lock Schneider up longterm. Why not go with a 1-2 punch as epic as Luongo and Schneider?

I know this was a joke, but even if a deal like this could happen how on earth with the cap situation could we make it work?
I thought about this and I can't help but think that perhaps we might end up worse off being how we would need to drop a few regulars just to make it worse.

Doesn’t mean that I wouldn't do it anyway, just because it would be too hard to resist but…

Not sure if this is serious but locking up CS would cost probably $3M-$4M with term... way too much money for a back-up on a cap strapped team.

Schneider will want at least 1B money and that kind of playing opportunity.

Forget about burying Kesler on the Moose, he would never clear waivers anyway.
A healthy Kesler is the kind of guy I believe we are going to need to be a contender.

See, starting Schneider is already paying off. Fans taking notice. Soon enough it's going to be GM's. Then, boom, trade!

That's just insane considering what established goalies got this past offseason

That's what it would cost to start buying out all his UFA years through his prime. I'm assuming "locking him up long-term" meant 7+ years.

I wouldn't trade him now but in the offseason, I'd want Despres from the Pens.

I would hope that any competent GM would know of Schneider's talent/ability before the average fan would.

Goaltending is the one place the Canucks have adequate depth. Even that is assuming Schnieder is an NHL player after a very small sampling.

If the Canucks do any moves at all it will be after Christmas. Even then, I think there are a lot of guys that should be considered before Schnieder.

I actually wouldn't be too surprised to see Schneider get a decent return sometime before the trade deadline.

I don't think it will be the Pens - they're pretty much stuck with Fleury - But I could def see a team like Tampa Bay making an offer that Gillis couldn't refuse. TB is a good goalie short of being a real cup contender. Course for that to happen Schneider would have to get a bunch more games under his belt and maintain his stellar stats.

Personally if we were to move Schneider, I'd like a deal similar to what the Lightning got for Mike Smith. And there's no reason to move Schneider until a deal like that falls into our laps.
