If we had signed Komisarek, what would our defense look like right now?

Personally, I find this sad to see. I really loved the guy when he was with us and it's sad how he's regressed. Ditto with Chris Higgins who I was sure would someday hit the 40 goal mark.

Interestingly, with both players you can point to a moment in time where their careers were derailed.

For Higgins, it was a serious ankle injury. He had a wonderful breakthrough season and was on fire to start the following year only to wreck himself on the boards. For whatever reason, he was never the same afterwards. It was the same deal with Komisarek. He got destroyed by Lucic and never came back the same.

Personally, I think it sucks.

basically add Komisarek, remove spacek...

perhaps it also means that we would have targeted a more mobile/puck moving type bottom pairing/bottom 3 dman (instead of Gill), but otherwise the salaries are more or less a wash (~700K more).

and as much as people want to rag on Komisarek as a "traitor" (still amazes me, he's a traitor because his boss decided to wait until the last minute to negociate a new contract with him, thus showing a huge lack of faith/respect), and as much as injuries and subsequent time away have slowed/regressed his progression, he'd still be a better asset to this team than what we have in Jaro the old...

I would give him Spaceks contract in a heartbeat.

Like someone else said Spacegoat is needed in a galaxy far far away.

The first thing that popped into my head when I read the title of this thread was:

Terrible.

Komisarek has been on the third pairing in Toronto and he's still looking relatively lost. 4.5M for a 3rd pairing D-man? That's much worse then what we've got in Spacek.

If he would have signed for Spacek money...under 4 mil for 3 years...he'd still be here...Toronto paid him 4.5 over 5 years coming off a very poor year.

He's still not anywhere close to a 4.5 mil player...even worse that it was over 5 years.

You think maybe that has something to do with Phaneuf's injury?

After the first 10 games of the season he was averaging 14 minutes a game. Thanks for stopping by though!
