Well deserved thread and there isnt enough praise for this guy. I just hope he can keep up this type of play because he just does NOT STOP.

Definitely agree Phaneuf is one of most overrated players in the nhl. Now back to the topic, Cally is the future captain. He should be a life long ranger but who knows what will happen 8-10 years from now.

Seriously though, just because Callahan isn't one of the top 2 best players in the league, doesn't mean that he is not a remarkable player. There is no one on this team, and maybe not anyone in the league that plays as hard as Callahan does night in and night out. You need players like that in order to win.

Hopefully Cally and the Rangers could agree on an extension during the season.

I don't buy hockey sweaters anymore, but I'll buy Cally's once we get him locked up.

Just upped' his goal from tonight:

______________

And he should definitely be locked up. He gives it 100% every game, and when he's healthy, he's an even bigger beast.

That was great by Cally to get that pass across to Dubinsky, after getting tripped. Showed good composure and awareness.

If Cally had a better wrister, he could be a 30-goal guy.

The next step for Cally is being consistent with his offensive game. I still have my doubt and b/c of those I still peg him to be a borderline 2nd line player but the best 3rd liner the game has to offer.

We're lucky to have a player who gives the effort Callahan does game in and out.

Honestly, I've wanted to start this thread for at least 2 years, LOL. I just knew it'd be filled with tons of "way too early" responses.

But you can't deny it anymore. He's a monster player. The guy is a throwback to a different kind of player. He's a warrior. Hardest working Ranger since Graves.
Might be the first and last time I can say this, but I'm 100% with you on Cally and Lundqvist. I know we've had our disagreements, but these two guys ARE the Rangers. Period.

Also, like I've also said within the past 48 hours (and last year), enough of this "3rd Line Player" nonsense when talking about Ryan. This guy would be on any top 6 on any team in the league. Period.

He's off the table when considering trades. Also. Period.

Absolutely...Callahan is by far my favorite player on this team- and I do love guys like Dubinsky and Hank. Even somebody who's never seen a game of hockey could realize how much effort he puts into his game.

I would love to see him with the C and will be utterly appalled if he is not locked up long term.

He's just another third-liner.

Yea, but if you can package him for XXXX then you gotta pull the trigger.

God Callahan has zero offensive ability. Hands of Stone.

Callahan's best days are still ahead of him, imo. As is Dubinsky's. Wait until these kids grow some hair on their chests. They're right on the cusp of becoming "men".

It's been a pleasure watching Callahan develop over the years. Anyone remember his rookie season when Renney sent him to Hartford, and everyone thought he was done? He teared **** up there, came back, and finished the season with us and never looked back.

Last season Callahan's stickhandling improved dramatically. He's continued improving that part of his game, as well as getting a little creative with the puck. He's already made numerous brilliant passes this year. That feed to MDZ tonight was beautiful. Showed patience with the puck, let things open up, and nailed the pass. Few weeks ago he made another sweet play when he fed Rozsival the puck, who connected with Anisimov.

Players don't finish developing their skill-set at freaking, 24 years old. Cally will continue improving most areas of his game.

Ironic this thread came up tonight; really. I went on the prowl googling the bowels of the internet looking for a sweet Cally pic for an upcoming Avatar.

Mancrush - Callahan

The only thing that dissapoints me a bit... Half this board wouldn't give Callahan his kudos if he wasn't racking up some points. Half this board ignores the sensational little plays he makes on a consistent basis.

Not even Graves brought the same level of consistency every single freaking shift of every single game of the year.

Anyone who dares label Callahan a third-liner should stop watching hockey and move to Mongolia.

Agree w/ alot of what you have to say, However I believe the next big step/question for Callahan is if he will be able to produce consistently. We all know he's the hardest worker on the team. It was the case last season too. However, now it's looking like that hard work and improved offensive skillset is coming thru. Offensive consistency is the next step IMO.

If he never displays another iota of improvement from this day forward, I would still want him on the untouchable list. He could even get a good deal worse, and I might still stand by that belief. That's how good he already is.

Next Ranger captain IMO. The guy has everything you'd want from a leader and he brings it each and every shift.

Yeah... those quotes were way over the top last year. Callahan is a very very good player and can play on any team and be effective. Just his play alone has to be noticed by every player on his team who is not giving 100%.. Callahan is an example of all heart with some good skill... What a draft pick.. I wish Grachev and etc can watch and learn from this guy!

Callahan is what 25 years old?? Okposo is only 22 years old so I am willing to believe Okposo will be in his prime when he is 25 years old. Too early for comparisons.

He's taken a step forward this year. He leads the team in SOG but he's passing more and some of the plays he's been making have been real beauties--for instance Dubinsky's goal against the Hurricanes or tonight when he was tripped and still got it to Dubinsky. Truthfully putting him together with Anisimov and Dubinsky--guys who are young with size and skill and lots of energy of their own helps take some of the load off of him of providing all the energy. This line is doing well because all the parts fit together and complement each other. Hopefully they don't break it up.

Despite our so-so record there are other forwards who have also stepped up in particular Boyle, Prust and Avery. Rangers are maintaining a competitive level with their most skilled player Gaborik out and missing Prospal as well. Who would have thunk they'd do so well with so much adversity? Not me.

That's Callahan's biggest dent in his armour for sure. His shot is nothing you write home about and he basically only has one deke in his repertoire on breakaways/ penalty shots.

If Cally can improve his shot and maybe add another move or two, he will be a completely awesome two-way forward. I just love his level of work ethics, I don't think I've ever seen him play - not even a single shift - with nothing but 100% intensity on the ice.

No disrespect to Drury but he should be the captain now. What great work effort. Theres some players in the league that if they had half the heart he does they would future HOF. Goes to show you what alittle work and effort does to a player.

I think the Dubi-Anisimov-Cally line better stay together.

That's all I know.

Oh, and rip that A off Staal and give it to Dubi, k thanks.
