RT @JeffMarek: Further, after Trevor Lewis Philly wanted Bobby Sanguinetti but NYR took him one pick before the Flyers were up. "Homer, who we taking?"

RT @FriedgeHNIC: Best trade never made: Paul Holmgren not dealing Claude Giroux to the 50 teams who asked.

I guess the Albany River Rats and such were making offers?

I thought that line was really strong tonight outside of JVR's ****up.

But I mean, they forechecked well and created 3-4 good chances, JVR was roaming a lot more at least instead of staying so static on the left.

EDIT: BTW, I dunno if we've covered this, but Giroux has definitely bulked up significantly.

Yeah the Flyers wanted Sanguinetti....they were kind of befuddled when the Rangers took him. I didn't know about Jerry Lewis

Aside from the TO, I also thought JVR had a good game tonight.

I believe that Jeff "the Anti-Christ" Carter is now 2nd on the team in points.
Give it time. Now I just need to look for the next player to prove you wrong about.

JVR is only 21 and doesn't exhibit the kind of confidence needed to take his game to the next level (that's the thing about Giroux, the confidence has ALWAYS been there). But the talent is there. Hopefully the part between the ears comes with continued experience and maturation.

So Shelley won't play in the playoffs I hope:

JVR Richards Wellwood
Hartnell Briere Leino
Carter Giroux Powe
Nodl Betts Carcillo

Now imagine a veteran winger with Carter and Giroux with good hands. sick.

Now imagine the best 6 defenders in the East (maybe in the whole league) and a goalie that is actually better than the opponents once in a while???

we can dream...

I actually think they might really be onto something with Giroux-Carter (obviously weren't together tonight), obviously Giroux is not going to keep up the 45 goal pace and the 30% shooting or whatever he's at, but there's a chance at 65-70 points IMO which would be a pretty big upgrade.

And I'll say it, Carter was fantastic tonight, thought he was all over.

He's playing well... helps when teams are making dumb plays and giving up breakaways on the PP with regularity... and goalies let shots dead to the middle of the net go past 'em. Giroux is doing good things, but lets not act like he hasn't had hot stretches... which were followed by cool stretches before.

He's far more effective at center... and I remain adamant that if they're going to put him at wing, it needs to be LW if they want to get full value out of his offensive game.

The biggest thing with Giroux is that they need him to avoid hitting the wall and tanking for a long stretch like he did last year.

Carter is so big and fast - and his defense is very good as well - the Flyers need his size down the middle. I hope they don't make any moves unless it's to get a reasonable 3rd line winger to get Powe back to the 4th line.

Why is it obvious that he can't keep a 45 goal pace? Seems he has just as much or even more of chance than Carter at this point...but let's see.

Cuz you can't score 30 breakaway goals a year... and you aren't going to sustain a high 20s shooting %.

Hater. Come on, have you not seen this brewing for the last 2 seasons? It's ok to let yourself believe and get excited, dude. We both know he's the most purely offensively talented player on this roster. I really don't think that's even debatable. Furthermore, what's even more impressive than his talent is what's between the ears. Claude has the demeanor and mindset to compliment his ridiculous ability -- his hockey IQ/sense is off the charts, and we've all seen that he just has "it" in terms of elevating his game in the biggest moments. That's a supremely special quality that separates the great players from the merely good ones.

Yeah, Richards is definitely pressing too hard right now, that play late in the game on the 2 on 1 where he tried to drag instead of just shooting... not looking fluid.

JVR still has to get into the right areas more frequently, I thought he had some really nice passes again tonight, but he needs to get himself into scoring areas more often. I still don't think he's a natural scorer (if he ever cracks 40, I'll be mildly shocked), but the key is to be able to crack 30 to get some respect/space from defenders.

That being said, while Wellwood was pretty good tonight, it's always tough when you have a guy playing his 1st game on your line.

He's going to have a very good career... do I think he's going to lead this team in points? Not necessarily. Do I think he's going to keep up his current pace (especially in goals)? No.

Let's also not downplay his play since the playoffs...that's all I'm saying. We can make the same argument about Carter with hot and cold stretches. This is what is bothersome..the double standard.

Again I don't dislike Carter and you do need depth at Center and it's best to let him prove his worth down the middle and not jerk the guy around..but I'm just concerned about overpaying him for what he brings.

Anyway..for all our sake let's hope the both of them rip it up....

Wellwood is breathing down Nodl's neck.
