Thing that stands out to me is that we should be able to control this game physically without too much trouble. Outside of Penner and to and extent Pajaarvi the Oilers are pretty small on the top-nine wings, and not much better at centre. Sedin/Kesler/Malhotra should be able to pound Gagne/Horcoff/Cogliano in the circle all night long.
And I don't think the Oilers will have much of an answer to the physical dimension of our new look third line generally.
Not to mention the Sedins should eat that defense whole.

I agree, I just wish Hamuis was playing tonight. Be nice to see the Canucks haelthy for a long long stretch.
eerg why does Burrows have to come back tonight?.... Anyways I think this game has the potential to be high scoring and pretty exciting. With Oilers defense on the ice the Sedins will probably be licking their chops.... But you guys also have Bieksa so anything can happen haha.
The Oilers don't have a bad top three forward lines, young, but still not a bad group of forwards. But.....wow is that defence horrendous.
They dearly need another bad season with a top pick resulting in a stud d-man.. if that happens, the team will be scary in a couple of years all around.
Thats the fear of some of the more intelligent posters over at the Oilers board.
Of course there are the others that are still calling them sisters and think Peckman will destroy everything in sight tonight.
I'm not exactly sure how Peckham garnered this "fearsome reputation" as some kind of physical monster...he's struck me in the past as a bit of a plug.
Smid on the other hand is a guy I hate to play against. Always took liberties with Naslund and seems to have shifted that over to the Twins. But then again, they seem to play better when opposing players try to rough them up, so here's hoping for more of the same.

Except in goal...but yeah. Larsson on that team would be scary indeed. Damn Isles...start tanking!

Peckham actually has been running up the boards and nailing guys entering the zone this year, and pretty effectively. Kind of what Sutton did while in Ottawa. He's getting more of a feel for the game this year it seems.

Alberts has been doing similar for us(destroyed a Devil yesterday). Wingers on both sides should keep their heads up when crossing the blueline.
I think that unless Schnieder has nightmares about the Oilers, he should be playing. Whatever. Vignault knows what he is doing.
I think the fourth line is becoming an interesting storyline. It doesn't seem like it has any design, just three guys that happen to be there. Glass belongs, but after that it looks pretty ad hoc. Doesn't seem like a pressing problem considering thier light useage, but it's never been a line with regulars.
Canucks also have speed... better not take the Canucks for granted. Seems to me the Oilers are full of youthful exuberance that gets them in more trouble most nights.
I agree with you 100%.. from what I've seen of the Oilers so far.
What I mean is that a couple of "Bieksa's" here and there will give them the breaks they might need to get a couple of goals (the kids can finish), feel they can hang in a game they really shouldn't be in, and next thing you know "the youthful exuberance" is a royal pain.
Having said that, last night, the D played really well in that they chipped it out, didn't try to be cute, and people in general kept it simple, not pretty but effective, and I sure enjoyed the win. If they keep it that way, I think they'll win without problems. If whomever decides to try to "pad his stats" or make the Sportscenter highlights, I think Edmonton will punish them.
Burrows is the pulse of this team. It's huge getting him back. Canucks are set to go on a roll here.
Agreed. He is the absolute key to our offense in my opinion. Not the best player on the team but he makes everything better. PK gets better, grit is better, offense should be better, defensively should be better. He's really a jack of all trades. For $2 million a 30+ goal scorer and, at least in the conversation, for Selke.
