Brooks: Lundqvist Hit With High Puck, Off Ice ("Is OK")

Hopefully nothing. He took a high puck to the jaw and was off the ice immediately.

The helmet should protect him. There's no details though. Shots to the jaw can lead to concussions if they are hard enough, but I think if he was hit that hard he would have been downed by the shot. We'll hope this is minor.

Also, Callahan isn't skating today.

From Andrew Gross.

Quote:
Lundqvist skates immediate off ice after taking Boyle slap shot to neck/throat. Apologetic Boyle follows goalie off the ice to check on him.
Quote:
Boyle comes back on the ice. No Lundqvist.
Quote:
Lundqvist went off ice so quickly he left his stick behind. Boyle still looks shaken.

Callahan is fine. He was seen walking without any issues.

To the neck doesn't scare me as much, honestly. Since he obviously didn't get a crushed trachea and die, he'll probably be ok. Getting hit in the throat hurts like hell and interrupts your breathing for a while, so no surprise that he would leave the ice in a hurry.

The odds are that it won't be a long-term thing. Not that I"m a doctor, but that's my experience.

his arms and legs are fine....throw some extra padding in that helmet and get back out there!

all kidding aside i hope its nothing major and he's back on the ice soon

Probably resting that ankle where he received the stitches.

Hank hopefully is just shook up and taking extra precaution.

Boyle says Lundqvist told him he was OK and sent Boyle out to finish practice.

Sounds about right. I never played hockey, but from playing lacrosse and taking sticks/balls to the throat, it's not pleasant at all. Probably the 2nd worst place to get hit.

That just gave me a Beavis and Butthead laugh.

I'm sure the king is fine. The only thing you worry about is a shot to the jaw, which can do some serious damage

If anyone is looking for some updates on Callahan, he's due up on NHL Live in this hour. Not exactly sure what segment though.
