I'm really trying to understand why scott and cullimore are here. Its not worth the 4 mil guy at the deadline that I hear a lot of people talking about. Send those 2 down for beach/makarov and vish. And I think we'd see an instant improvement. They may be shaky, but at least we'd know they're young and will improve...

Reminds me of this post from the Seabrook thread...

That was the response I got when I said that trading Seabrook would make this team even softer than it is now. I wonder if he still feels that way now that the season is underway.

At this point a deadline acquisition would be a waste of whatever assets we lose to acquire them. You make a deadline deal if you can get that one piece that puts you over the top. Right now, our problem is internal. One guy isn't going to suddenly make Toews play like Toews can and Kane play like Kane can.

Thats the key IMO. I just am having the hardest time watching those two play. They are supposed to be taking their game to the next level and instead they are playing like they already won the Stanley Cup...which great players never do IMO. We have all seen flashes but IMO with the injuries that the Hawks have been facing the "leaders" of the team need to be leading. I see Keith busting ass and Sharp has been earning that "A" all season...its time for "Captain Serious" to step up and Kaner to start earning the 6+ mil/year payday

Grit has nothing to do with why we are losing. Brouwer, Bickell, Dowell, Skille, and Stalberg all bring some physicality to the team. Our talent isn't producing.

But talent alone is not enough. Blues and Rangers especially exposed our lack of grit, and we need some of that talent to play like they want to win and that includes going into the trenches. Its embarassing to get beat by teams only because they outworked us. Its getting better but we'll see where we stand when we play a team like Philly who will pumped for revenge.

Work rate and grit are two entirely different things.

Hard work in the trenches and winning the battles for the puck takes grit and it is a missing ingredient when you compare to last year. I'm pretty sure statistically we are now a bigger club physically but we don't play like it. Ladd, Eager and Burish are not huge, but were a large part of that and so was Buff when he wanted to be. We have brought in some talent but as yet have not replaced the grit that went with the players mentioned. Are the new guys up to it? Not so far.
