Rypien

Rick Rypien is officially eligible to return to the team after tonights game as his 6 game suspension will have been served.

What are your thoughts, do we bring him back on the team, waive him to the Moose, trade him elsewhere.

I also think Desbiens has played out his welcome here and should be sent back to the Moose.

Maybe bring up Oreskovich and give him a shot on RW in place of Desbiens.

I think he'll stick with the team as the 13th forward. I also agree that Desbiens should be replaced with Oreskovich.

You put Rypien on the 4th line.

Then you pray he gets into a fight so the 4th line has to get off the ice.

That is currently our best solution for our 4th line.

Agree with others, though, I hope to see Oreskovich up sooner rather than later.

Desbien is playing well right now and looked like a solid fourth-liner against New Jersey. AV obviously thought so as well, as he put him out for some PP time at the end of the game as a reward. He's not a goal scorer, but he's aggressive and plays the body well. He may be expendable, but I don't think he's "played out his welcome" by any means.

Desbiens is such a horrible skater, that even despite his best effort he is always 2-3 steps behind the play, and unless the line starts to cycle in the zone, he is useless. Yes he hits, but only when he can get there in time. At least Glass, Rypien, Schaefer and Oreskovich can skate and create a buzz and energy.

Rypien isn't going anywhere.

He won't play every game, but he will remain a Canuck.

Yeah Vigneault loves this dude. He's on the team as soon as he's able to be. Desbiens has been all right. Plenty of hits and doesn't turn the puck over. He's probably the guy to go if we have to move someone. But yeah, Rypien's a Canuck for sure.

My guess is that he'll be the fourth line centre until Bolduc returns. He was 6 for 9 on the dot before his suspension.

Getting Rypien back is a good thing. He isn't ideal, but he is a center.

I don't see the guy as a detriment or anything. He didn't hurt anybody.

there's only 2 players that I'm just scratching my head about wondering why they're still here.

Schaefer and Desbien who should be immediately swapped with oreskovich and rypien making our bottom 6

torres-malholtra-hansen
glass-rypien-oreskovich

AV loves his grinders. Desbiens, Glass, Schaefer, and Rypien will all stay put, because they are grinders, and Desbiens is french!

This only means that AV will scratch either Raymond, Samuelsson or the Sedins.

...and for the ryper haters about to diss his face off skills I have this to say

Henrick

Kesler

Malholtra

one average center out of four aint bad considering most teams struggle to get 2 great centers while we have 3. Plus we need a guy out there who can/will regularly chuck 'em other than glass

I'm never a fan of changing things up when we're winning.

But I still really really hate our 4th line. With the addition of burr, I'm loving the top 3 lines (hansen is not a top 6 player). But, the fourth line with Desbiens, Glass and Schaefer, I really dont like.

While i dont mind have Schaef on the 4th, I am not a fan of either Glass or Desbiens, and would rather actually see Tambo on the 4th line. I know hes not a classic AV 4th liner that grinds and fights, but he adds some skill to the line, and some1 who can actually finish, and can be moved up to the top 6 if one of our guys are having an off day.

Im probably in the minority on that, but IMO a line of Schaef, Tamb, Rypien while small will out produce and contribute more than Glass Desbiens Schaef

I think it's obvious what's going to happen to Rypien... he'll be back as the team's #4 center until Bolduc is back, and then will be moved back to his natural position at right wing - likely at Desbiens expense - at that point... I don't see anyone from Manitoba being called up any time soon.

AV loves Rypien and won't take him out the lineup if he can play... but he's also shown that he'd rather have him on right wing instead of center, but uses him as a center when necessary... and in recent games, he's also shown that he doesn't really like to use any of the other options at center either. Schaefer and Tambellini have had some shifts at center, but they've mostly both been used on the wings... in the last couple games, we even saw Malhotra double-shifting with the 4th line, while Schaefer was moved back to left wing (his natural position) and Glass was benched for some shifts.

Given everything we know about AV, Rypien and this team, I think that Rypien's role moving forward is obvious. Does AV really do anything that's unpredictable anymore?

You just need the digits at the end of the youtube URL, like so (without the spaces obviously):

The 4th line as a whole has been awful this year. Desbiens is not an NHL level hockey player or skater. Yeah he throws a few hits but that doesn't really matter. He useless with the puck.

To me he's the weakest link on that line and should be upgraded.

I'm really not a fan of Rypien except when he's fighting. I think he brings very little to the 4th line in terms of controlling the puck or playing safe defensively. The only puck control that 4th line manages to even have for like 20 seconds each game is due to how good Schaefer is on the boards. Rypien can switch in and out with Desbiens or Glass depending on who's going and who the opponent is.

Was thinking this exact same thing yesterday....

He's fairly predictable in how he handles things.

Schaefer is a better center than Rypien.

Speaks volumes about how weak our 4th line center options are.

Do we have room to call up Oreskovich if Desbiens is injured? I'd like the fourth line to be a mix of Glass, Rypien, Oreskovich, Schaeffer, and Bolduc when he's back.
