Tempting but the fact that Brouwer's only got 1 goal so far this season would make me hesitate. If only Hawks were shopping Sharp he'd be the perfect linemate for Malkin, could take all his faceoffs and pot 30.

Brouwer was being used as bottom 6 depth for most of early part of year thus his low goal total.

A deal involving Edm and Pit, Linus Omark for Brian Strait makes some sense. Omark is a good W prospect buried in the Oil system, and Strait is a solid D prospect buried in the Pens system.

Another deal that might make sense is with Mtl: Max Pacioretty for Keven Veilleux.

I think we should be targeting wingers in the AHL who have more value to us than to their current teams. Other names that come immediately to mind are Buffalo's Mark Mancari and Florida's Michal Repik.

Jackets would probably want a deal based around Staal or Letang. Basically, it's not happening.

Omark will not be moved for a below average prospect in Strait, we would want Depres.

Strait isn't a below average prospect, he's not a flashy prospect but he has potential to be a solid 2nd pairing defensive dmen and should be an NHL #6 at minimum. Despres is worth much more than Omark but I can see why Oilers would rather gamble on Omark's higher ceiling rather than Strait's safe bet.

Can Brouwer play RW as well as LW?

The degree to which Jordan Staal is overrated on this board is actually making me start to really dislike him.
It's no fault of his, obviously. But still! Give it a rest, Pens fans.

He's worth more to us than any other team. Staal isn't the only player in the league like this. He just gets talked about a lot more.

He's a young, clutch, second/third line center at worst who shows up in the playoffs. He plays a very strong defensive game and chips in offensively. Is that overrated? Just because we don't want to trade him doesn't mean he's overrated.

Wouldn't he be more valuable on other teams as he gets 1st line minutes (Oilers, Leafs) as opposed to a shut down role behind the best center duo?

He plays a very important role on our team. And he'll be centering the second line when he returns. He's worth more than people are willing to trade to us. That's what my comment meant.

Yes Brouwer's natural position is RW but Hawks usually have deep RW depth so he plays more LW

The perfect trade...

Parise + Vs Malkin

This would never happen for obvious reasons but this swap would look absolutely mental for both clubs with Parise-Crosby and Kovalchuk-Malkin.

maybe but he's a huge part of this team, He provides offense from a source which isn't called Malkin or Crosby, he's a huge part of the PK, He logs a lot of minutes and even if he isn't scoring he's good at wearing the other team down on the cycle.

This would be a no-brainer for the Pens. Losing Orpik would hurt a bit in the room and in front of the net, but Shero would be nuts to turn down Corey Perry.

I doubt we could land Perry for so little, sadly.

Ideal trade would be Orpik + for Setoguchi + Murray but I think the plus would have to be too big.
