Salary cap says a big hello and the price is too high anyway.

Want someone better than Penner if we're shipping Staal.

Done and done.

Pass, see above.

Pass, I like Versteeg but I wouldn't move Tangradi for him

Well Crosby and Malkin could have had the max so they took somewhat of a paycut and how many players have taken paycuts on their first contract?. Fleury really needs to step up his game if he's going to live up to anywhere near that contract. We should have a bit more money to go dumpster diving for wingers this Summer.

Talbat and a 1st for Versteeg? I think that is doable as we need a 3rd ine Center and the 1st is a nice peice doubt Burke woud do it though

Just some ideas...

Orpik for Setoguchi+.... + being something like Petrecki?

Staal for Booth was a nice option.

If we traded Malkin to NJD (won't happen, but still) the + with Parise would have to start with Clarkson, then go from there.

Perhaps Staal for Loui Erikkson?

Gionta + 2nd <> Staal + Godard

Kostitsyn, A. + Pouliot + 3rd <> Staal

No Chance, MacArthur's had a great start to the season but his value is still low and Kulemin's a nice piece but until he puts up 25 goals 50 points he's not a good enough centrepiece for Staal.

If Shero has resisted dealing Staal so far, knowing he has two of the best centers in the NHL ahead of him, it's because he knows how valuable Staal is to his team.

Right now, the Pens are a team without an identity, because their identity is their center strength...and not just two lines deep, but three. What we (fans) are looking for is a trade that won't change the team's identity, because quite frankly they won't be Cup contenders if they do. The goaltending can't lead them. The defense is a lot better, but there's no superstar back there. It's the center strength that will make or break this team.

Having said all that, getting a "real winger" is going to be awfully hard. But it's not impossible. Shero needs to get lucky, or creative, or a little of both.
I don't think the value is there at all Jags.

I think we'd have to add a decent plus from our side to get Petrecki + Setoguchi, I'm not sure how highly the Sharks value Petrecki but I guess it's pretty high.

Eriksson is pretty much the perfect fit, great contract, great 2 way guy and great around the net (though he isn't a Righty) but he's a pipedream unless we want to explore Malkin for Eriksson ++

Don't want Gionta's contract and Kostitsyn is too hot and cold to be dealt for Staal.

Malkin for Eriksson and Neal would work for me. But with the stars imposed cap, they may not want to have 2 big contracts - Malkin & Richards (if he re-signs). Some Pens fans may feel its not enough, but its tough to get actual value (without draining the team) when it comes to a player of Malkins level.

Yeah, it's pretty dumb.

That's why trades on that level haven't happened in decades.

Other than that, they will be forced to develop some wingers through the draft. If not, they'll need to bite the bullet and trade Staal
Or Malkin given the way he has played lately.

How about something along the lines of this ....

To Pittsburgh - Vrbata, Prucha and Schlemko

To Phoenix - Tangradi/Kennedy and Gologoski

Having said that, I'm not so sure who the Coyotes would prefer between Tangradi and Kennedy because they are a team that is sorely lacking in the goal scoring department and trading Vrbata DOES NOT appear to solve things.

Tangradi has the higher ceiling, but in such a situation, the Yotes may prefer the more ready player in Kennedy. Hard to say. What they give up in immediate offense from the wing position, they gain in offense from the defense position. Perhaps Tangradi blossoms in the desert.

Schlemko is added to ease the loss of Goligoski. While he's not on the same level, he is a young puck mover in the same mold.

Tried to avoid a Staal proposal because while I would definitely want him, I don't believe the Penguins will trade him, barring a massive blockbuster type deal.

Not going anywhere, he's going to win the Calder in my opinion.

Would Boston/Pittsburgh do something based around Wheeler for Tangradi?

I don't know if this has been mentioned but why not talk to Philly about Zherdev. He'd cost pretty much nothing and if he finds his heart could be lethal on the pens

I would do this

Then the Pens could waive Comrie to get under the cap.

Seems fair value to me. I think Dallas would have to get rid of Ribero first though.

Pens fans need to cool off. Pens have a lot of UFA's this off-season which will result in a ton of cap-space. they will sign their goal scoring winger then,no need to trade established core players for that.
