Yes this is a trade within the division, but I think that this works out for both teams.

NJD:

Josh Bailey 1.75m
Mark Streit 4.1m

NYI:
Zach Parise 3.25m
Brian Rolston 5.62m

NYI get a fantastic young superstar left winger to play with tavares/okposo and take a nhl forward as a salary dump. NYI Has alot of salary cap and wang can pay what parise is looking for. They give up a 2nd line centerman with upside, and a veteran puckmoving defenseman signed to a good deal that can perform now.

NJD get the puckmoving defenseman that they need, at a great contract akin to kaberles, and get a top6 centerman with upside to play behind zajac. They free up alot of cap room, and remain competative in the now and the future.

I only included the main pieces, picks and prospects can be added to balance it out.

This is a very interesting trade proposal. I don't see why the Devils do this though. They'll have Arnott, Langenbrunner, and Hedberg coming off the book which would give enough wiggle room to sign Parise and still have money left to spend if need be.

Aren't Streit and Parise out with injuries for a while?

Besides the rumours that parise wants out of NJD, and the obvious overlap of skill in the LW NJD system with kovy, parise, and elias.

This allows NJD to get a cap friendly veteran puckmover to bolster their defense in Streit who has proven to be a serious player over the past couple years in NYI. They also get josh bailey who allows them to add center depth and he has alot of upside in his game. They also dump some salary and allows them to be players in next years UFA market or resign some of their own players down the line or make a move at the deadline. This is not about dumping salary or dumping parise, its about filling a defensive need by unloading a valuable surplus player and getting cap flexibility and a young piece back.

From the islanders perspective, you do get much weaker on the defensive end, but you gain a strategic piece in parise to refill your left wing. You dont have much serious skill on the left side, and parise+tavares would be scary indeed. As good as bailey is, he is kind of a generic 2nd line center ala stajan and will never be super special. Just the kind of player you should give up for parise, and just the type of player that fits the NJD like a glove.

And who cares if they are out with injuries, unless its career impacting these are long term deals.

EDIT: I wonder if NYI would do a top5 protected first for a 2nd swap to give NJD some more value.

I wouldnt do the deal as is, no way would I add to it. Parise will want 7M+, and were taking a bad contract back and giving up a Young guy in Bailey ready to come into his own, And Streit so we pay both ways. it would be better to overpay him as a free agent and keep the Talent. if He really does want out of NJ we'll have the cap dollars to sign him, and if he wont sign with us as a free agent he isnt someone worth giving up Bailey or Streit for. This is akin to The Santana non deal with the Yankees. Why pay both ways ?

devils wouldnt go for this especially not to a division foe.

streits not bad but hes also not young, bailey hasnt proved anything parise has proved to be a premiere talent and the headache rolston is will be over way before the headache of trading parise for that return would be

I think you're really underrating the Isles players here.

Streit is one of the premier defenseman in this league. Top-10 for sure. He is good for 45+ points, powerplay quaterbacking, and leadership. And he's 32, not 37.

And Bailey is a very promising player. he has 70 point, two-way potential.

Both of these players are very important to the Islanders, and neither are being traded, even for a player of Parise's caliber. These two together bring more than Parise himself.

streit will be 34 next year when hes finally back to 100%

bailey may have that potential but so far has 35 and 25 points and almost full season(not quite) at age 21

after parise's 32 point rookie season has had scoring seasons of 62,65,94,82 including a 45 goal season at age 26 and was a key piece of team USA's run at the gold.

id take my chances on parise over that package, not to say the package is weak, just not what id be looking for in return

I see where you're coming from, but:

a. If Parise became an Isle, it'd be via offer sheet.

b. Streit is their best player. Without him, their D is shot.

i can agree to both of those which is why i dont think that trade would work.

i think the devils would rather see if they could get a different kind of return or just get the compensation in draft picks from someone tendering him

As a Devils fan, it's no thank you. The Isles should have drafted him when they had the chance.

Don't think its enough for Parise, although it does give them some good pieces going forward ie. PMD, future second line center, cap relief but I think they could probably get more, maybe?

Imagine Parise-Tavares-Okposo

This is actually the best Parise proposal I have seen so far. The Devils desperately need a guy like Streit, and Baley has good value. Plus the Devils strip a toxic contract in Rolston.

Maybe not ideal value but it isn't awful.

How about this:

To NYI:
Parise

To NJD:
Nothing

Devil fans don't want Parise and Parise wants out. I think both teams benefit from this.

How about this:

To Isles: Parise

To Devils: Dipietro

Isles get the Left Winger they need and the Devils get Marty's successor locked up for the rest of his career at a very cap friendly contract!!!!!!!

But seriously I'd do that deal that was proposed in a heartbeat.
