Last year he took a while to really get going. Considering he's had decent point production so far while playing some pretty lackluster games, I think it's pretty ridiculous so begin even insinuating that he's a "bust".
But he just had a bad game where he was benched for a bit! Obviously he's never going to amount to anything because it's fun to overreact to a bad game.
It really sucks that you can see threads made by ignored posters. But I guess it just reinforced the reason I did it in the first place... this lack of hockey knowledge and logic is indicative of the dreaded Denver Post site commenter.
Duchene had a terrible game. Obviously, this is going to happen with a 19 year old kid and honestly I think this situation could really help him grow and teach him to bear down and just how important simplicity is. Besides last night I truly think he has played generally well this season and shown flashes of his potential(with his fair share of rough patches). But yeah I guess this makes sense. He had a bad game. Bust.
Really, we're just seeing the same thing we saw last year. He's gripping his stick too hard and not playing calm/confident and at times tries to do way too much on his own. Once things get going for him and he gets in his groove it will be all butter. We all know how he can play, and this wake up call might be exactly what he needs to adjust mentally to be able to put it all together.
Oh and the legal drinking age in Alberta is 18. Just sayin'.
Here is a little horror thought for many Avs fans with high hopes about Duchene.
So far he just looks more like an AHL player, his finishing is awful, he loses the puck while trying to do too much with it, and overall i'm just not impressed with this guy (at least not yet) So i'm wondering what happens if he becomes a bust?
Where do the Avs find a 2nd line center if Duchene never develops into a top 2 center? I mean i hope that never happens, but it's possible.
if he becomes a bust, joey hishon is a center at the moment and has top 6 potential. I Also hope he continues to develop and never busts.

This whole thread is a serious joke. Lets call the leading rookie goal scorer from last year a bust because he had a bad game last night.... you are obviously a young fan or an uninformed fan!
Beside Chris Stewart, Duchene has been the best player on the ice for the Avs a lot of times this season. Maybe he's not scoring as much as you were hoping so far.. but look at all the other proven scorers in the league struggling a bit out of the gate. Are you going to call Rick Nash a bust?
Duchene is 19 and is in his sophomore season which has historically been a slumper season for a lot of youngsters. But its not like he isn
t fitting in with the team.... give your head a shake, this kids going to be a star
I was justified in saying that at the time because it was true. I'm very glad Stewart has figured out how to work hard, and play to his potential instead of coasting around like he was doing before his demotion last year.
With Duchene the work ethic is there he is just is a kid and a bit immature, he will have hot streaks and cold streaks thats what happens with most 19 year olds not named Crosby, Ovechkin and Stamkos. If by year 3 he hasn't made some strides to becoming a better finsiher and overall player then we might need, to get a little concerned. But for a 19 year old to be playing defensively responsible, and be able to put 50-65pts on the board is very acceptable in my books because that will probably translate to 70-85pts when he matures into a adult. He is a kid, think about when you were 19, could you play in the NHL? Probably not.
You were wrong. Its ok. You werent the only one alot of folks around here was ready to sell Stewart for buttons. I knew with a little motivation he would be good and even said so much about it last year.
I think it has pretty much risen to the levels of officially being called "Benchgate". We will be talking about this for years to come.
It was kind of funny listening to the radio here last night and this morning. I was half expecting that same exact label to be used at some point: Benchgate.
What is slightly worrying is that last year he was picking up the garbage around the net and got a lot of his goals that way. This year he has rarely found himself in that spot but is more a perimeter player. I don't think that is his strength. He should be the center version of Parise to be as dominant as he should be.

19. But they hardly check in downtown toronto/vancouver. Think I've only been carded three times in my whole life and all three were at the same bar. lol
