Regier was on WGR this evening.
He stated directly there are no player changes coming in the forseeable future. The current roster is going to have to work through this rough patch.
Edit: Sorry, the show was Schopp and Bulldog on WGR 550, interviewed Regier at about 5:45pm this evening or so.
Warning to anyone willing to subject themselves to listening to the audio clip (assuming WGR puts it up later): be prepared for an instant migraine, followed by extensive vomiting.
"..if you think you're going to go out in the NHL, in this kind of climate, and pluck another player from another team that will come in and help your team, you're kidding yourself...."
Is this guy seriously gonna sell us this line of crap. Ask him if any of these players are helping their new(er) teams:
Joe Thornton
Dany Heatley
Jaro Halak
Nathan Horton
Dustin Byfuglien
Andrew Ladd
Marion Hossa
Phil Kessel
Seriously, I could go on, but these are ones off the top of my head. Why didn't his interviewer bring any of these up(oh ya, because the media is already too hard on the Sabres.)
If you want to start to make moves now at this point in the season, the only way you're going to be able to do it is you're going to have to give up your assets, and those are your best players and the reality is we're not going to move our best players. As difficult as it might be for me, for our fans, there is going to continue to be patience involved.
The key part here is the "not going to move our best players" bit. Are you talking EVER, Darcy, or are you putting it in the context of a single season? I think he's talking about the latter given the "this point in the season" part.
If he's just saying he's not going to move any players now because the market would be awful at this particular juncture, then I can agree with that. Might as well let the team continue to not resemble a championship-capable team for another four months and let the vitriol really build up to force some change.

May as well.
The Sabres are headed for the 1st pick overall, not to mention, at the deadline, "IF" (huge if) Regier moves anyone at the deadline, it will most likely be for picks or prospects.
The scary thing is, I see this team climbing back into 9th in the East and missing the playoffs by a handful of points. Then Larry Quinn will say, "These guys did a good job of pulling the team out of a funk, and if not for a few key injuries, our elite defense would have made the playoffs. So as a reward, both Regier and Ruff are being extended, and Tim Connolly is getting a raise!"
It's almost comical how hard Buffalo is working for their goals and how Montreal is just shrugging and putting it in the net. The Sabres are playing their absolute best hockey, and yet they're still in a life or death battle.

ok.. Darcy i will give you until new years to have this team pull you out of the so called funk. If they do and we are in the playoff race you keep your job i will apologize and hope you make a few good moves to bolster the line up..however if you fail and we are out of the race ..10-14 pts out of 8th on jan 1st you must resign apologize to the city for this embarrassing time of late and let a real gm do your job for you.
Either you truly believe in this team or you feeding us ****... i think this is fair.

Obviously he's talking about Sekera and McCormick. Who is would he be talking about?
Somebody needs to **** talk this team right to Darcy's face. I mean really tear the management a new one and do it vocally. Do it for all of them to hear. What's it gonna take?

Frankly, what he said and how he said it was not very different than what he was saying leading up to the trading deadline and into the summer: 1) he apparently doesn't want to make any kind of trade involving his darling core players; and 2) if he were to make a deal, he wants only to give up draft picks.
What was comical in that "interview" (which the radio hosts acknowledged afterwards was a joke) was Bulldog's counter to Regier's comment by asking, "Who do you think are your "best players", if I may be so bold to ask?" - to which Regier began to babble back, "Well, Tyler Myers....all the way to Paul Gaustad."

Same old schtick. During the summers, Regier complains that the free agent market is out of whack and the trade market isn't there. During the season, leading right up to the deadline, he complains that trades can't be made because of cap issues.
i think he's right that, at the moment, the market for buffalo's spare parts is pretty bad. hopefully they are still in a position to be sellers as the deadline approaches.
