Stamkos ready to talk long term deal.

http://www.sportingnews.com/nhl/stor...contract-talks

Quote:
If Tampa Bay general manager Steve Yzerman has his way, star forward Steven Stamkos will be locked into a long-term contract before the season concludes. Stamkos and agent Mark Guy are ready, willing and able to talk about a deal that will keep Stamkos in a Lightning uniform for years to come.

“Both sides want to get going on this,” Guy told Damian Cristodero of the St. Petersburg Times. “We’ll get something started in the next week or two.”

I hate these contracts though. I would honestly rather see a 5 or 6 year deal and see where things are at that point.

10 Year deals make sense if you are getting a break on salary. Deals like Lecavalier's just don't make sense. "Let's pay him near cap and sign him for 11 years! This makes sense! Where do I sign!?"

If you are signing a player to 10+ years, you better be getting a damn good cap number in my opinion.

If it's north of 7 million, I want 5-6 years.
If it's less, a length similar to Backstroms is ideal.

No more than a six year deal is what I see, more likely 3-4 years.

Probably will sign a Parise/Weber/Giroux kind of deal to still be a RFA, then the big money.

I'd be all over signing him a Backstrom kind of deal tho

Backstrom's deal would be ideal, maybe a bit too long.

By the way:
Quote:
Q (Puck Daddy): There were reports in the St. Pete Times that your agent and the Lightning were going to start discussing your next contract. Was five years, which is what was reported, right around where you want to be in your next deal? Shorter term? Longer?

A (Stamkos): That's actually the first I've heard of it. (Note: Interview was conducted on Friday.) It's something we really haven't discussed it. I know it'll take care of itself. When you have a guy like Steve Yzerman in the organization, you know it'll be handled first class.

I love how the media outside of Tampa just picks a number, and then everyone runs with that and has no clue what is actually happening.

Does anyone actually know what is happening besides the Lightning brass and the agent?

Hey guys. Minnesotan Stamkos fan. Inb4 bandwagon, I was a fan since he played for the Sting still.

Anyway, I want a high quality Stamkos jersey. One that's stitched instead of screen printed to look like it's stitched. The NHL Online store doesn't have any authentic stitched ones, anyone know where I can get one?

Coming down to Tampa isn't an option.

Stamkos is currently on pace for 77 goals and 142 points. Let's assume that Stamkos signs a deal at the 60 goal mark by which time his pace is lowered to a more reasonable pace of 55 goals and 110 points (this would require 26 goals and 55 points in the next 45 games, which is completely and most likely doable).

I'll say his contract is worth 6 years at $8.5+ million per year

sportsk.com is the best. Stitching for the price of an NHL.com heat press.

My brother is currently looking into buying a jersey and from his research he says that http://www.icejerseys.com/ does actual stitching for lettering/numbers and isn't screened.
