The Penalty Kill

Going into tonights game we were at about 75% on the year and 4th last in the league. It all can't be down to missing Drury, although he would help considerably. Is it just me or does it seem we over commit constantly on the kill, especially our defensemen around the net. It seems like we get burned rather often back door with both defenseman on one side of the ice or behind the net. How can something like this occur within one year and not a considerable amount of roster change in the offseason?

We're missing Redden. And I'm serious about that. There are three guys on the team who have a bunch of experience killing penalties, which means there's often going to be someone learning the gig at the NHL level on the ice fairly often. You would hope that Sauer would develop into a good PKer, but he's still a rookie. MDZ could as well, but he's got that youth thing too. I fully expect the kill to get better over the course of the season.

We are missing key personnel from last season and Drury being out is also a reason for this.
