Variety is the Crux of NA sports

The crux of the North American sports model is variety. individual sports franchises are not social institutions as they are in Europe (with few exceptions such as the Leafs, Habs, Packers, Yankees…), but mere interchangeable substitutes. Their individual popularity is almost entirely based on success. This fickle bandwagon fair-weather fan dependent model is obviously flawed.

The only way forward is a polarization of markets. Canada is mostly solid, but America is fluid and volatile. If only 22 markets are hockey markets then so be it, but enough of this BS variety.

lolwut? Are you a communist, son? Do you also think we should have 5 tv channels because the ratings aren't as big as they used to be, with viewers being spread out more? What if the lack of "variety" took out YOUR favourite team?
