Brian Gionta useless shots

As I said in another thread 2 weeks ago , giving the captaincy to Gionta was a major mistake because his career will just go down from now on and he's already overpaid. Now of course I expect him to score more goals than what he's doing right now , but I don't think he'll ever reach 30 goals again.Something I noticed is the amount of shots he takes that has maximum 5% chance of going in.I know he's looking for that big goal to break the ice and had his chances , but how many useless shots can a guy take? His shot is clearly not what It used to be and it seems he can't understand or accept this in his head. How many shots from the blue line has he taken , even the guys with the greatest shots in the league rarely score from there. The talent of Brian Gionta is now very limited , he has no hands , his shots is not getting any better and he has the tremendous pressure of beign the captain of the habs.

I don't really know what i'm looking for with this thread just having a discussion about Gionta I guess.

He's just looking for ways to score, and when you want to score, you're looking for openings. He's trying to pick the corners, and thus going for low-percentage shots, instead of just getting a puck to the net for rebounds etc. He's doing fine, he'll break out, Gomez as well.

I agree that Gio is trying to be a little too fine with his shots. The important thing is that he is shooting since the next step down for a player losing confidence is passing it away even when a shot is there. Simple fact is you can't score if you don't shoot.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take!

Gomez we complains he never shoot
Gionta we complains that he takes useless shots

Based on last year production; 28 goals in 6X games...

How 5millions for a 28 goals scorer in 6X games is overpaid? When you give it all every game.

Do not like your thread.

Personally, I think he should not have the added pressure of being Captain.

It attracts too much attention and expectations.

Gill or Gorges would have been excellent picks.

He isn't totally wrong, although about Gionta no hands... don't know what he expects.

For the useless shots, I think the shot to the chest of a goalie, that have no chance at going in or rebound is what he's alluding too. Gomez needs to shoot more, take some pressure off of Gionta as apparently on a breakaway he slows down to pass to Gionta... Hopefully the ball starts to roll soon for these 2.

you are right, he is making too much useless shots but a shot is a shot. The problem is he doesnt get close enough to the nets so goalies glove or save his shots easily . He will score when he will start taking shots closer to the net, he is too good to struggle like this. He will rebound.

Is this the first Gionta criticism thread made here?
If it is that has to be some kind of record. Usually it only takes a few bad games, or sometimes even just shifts, for one to pop up.

I love Gio, but yeah, has to be said, I'm soooo sick of his BS slapshot from far out that has no chance of going in. He used to score on those occasionally, but most of his goals have come from in front of the net. Him and Gomez (I've been defending them all season long cuz I can't beleive it could go on so long) need to find a way to make those slick give and goes that aren't just at the blue line.

To the point of the thread title...yeah, that shot if f'in annoying. He is trying though and it's not the captaincy that's affecting this, it's just a coincidence that it's happening right now. I'm sure he'll get over the hump, but now I'm not so sure how long. That being said, poster boy sniper (Cammy) needs to start taking lessons from AK. Oh how things change quickly. At least Gio has been great defensively and backchecks all the time.

I'd like to see if playing Gio on the left wing might just get him going. It'd give him some different angles to work with, give him the option to get his shot away quicker which might find some open space before a goalie can react and it would take him and Gomez out of their routine a little bit, just make both of them get their heads up but still allow them to benefit from their chemistry.

He'll get it going at some point, just a shame to see him struggle like this so early in his captaincy. More than anyone, he would have wanted to start hot and set the tone for the season but if he hits a hot streak later on, it may give the team a nice little jolt.

Gionta :

2006-07 : 25G
2007-08 : 22G
2008-09 : 20G
2009-10 : 28G

I think he played over what he is capable of at 31 y/o ( soon 32) last year. He has leadership and great ethics , but at 5M$ over 4 years with 20g per season , his contract his a paint in the ass.

Trade for Coulton Orr so the Habs have someone to take out the goaltender. Of course we need the right referee too. The stars will have to align I guess.

Gionta scores tonight.

A lot of the players keep shooting the puck into the crest of the opposing goalie.

At least Gionta is getting shots on net and using his speed to make things happen.

Cammalleri on the other hand shoots the puck 30 feet wide every time he takes a shot, not to mention he looks slow and turns the puck over like crazy. Did this guy not work out during the summer?

Your logic is so flawed it is so amazing. His slow production to start the season is because he is captain? Please.
