Aren't the goalies allowed to smother the puck whenever they're at (or really close to) their crease?

Even Shelley has looked...like a hockey player, he had a pretty good shift in the first.

Better questions: why do we ever need Shelley?

No, you can't just come out and freeze the puck when there isn't pressure.

Actually, I think a good rule change for them to consider is just making it illegal for the goalie to freeze the puck beyond his crease (possibly expand the crease slightly)... would certainly lead to some more chaos.

Wellwood has caught my eye... assuming you put JVR back in, you are going to have a fierce competition for the bottom of the roster come playoff time assuming we're healthy.

Wellwood, Powe, and Nodl should make for some solid wings for Betts on the 4th line along with (presumably) Carcillo.

I agree.. Still do not understand the mentility "we have to have enforcer" in every single game.

Caps did not even dress King.

Sloppy and disorganized defensive play. Been a while since we had one of those games. I don't know who Coburn is mad at, but he's been running around taking hits instead of keeping position, or simply taking the puck, too much (though it's nice that he's more physical this season).

It's likely the refs have a window for judgment in cases like this but the strict interpretation of the rule is that there should have been a minor penalty imposed. However, there can be a similarity made with what we witnessed (possibility that the skate was obstructed by the strap) to the helmet of the goalie removed which can hinder the netminder. Goalies generally are given more liberties than skaters because they can't skate to the bench.

Assuming he can keep it up, Wellwood and Nodl are our best options for that 9th forward spot in our top nine. Wellwood is fast, energetic, and has decent instincts in the offensive zone. Nodl just can't finish for his life (although he's been doing well offensively lately).

So to have either one sit for fricking Shelley mystifies me.

Stop acting like a child. Carter has played like **** today, and everyone can see that, but to suggest benching him for Wellwood? Thats what makes you look bad

Well, I'm referencing the removal of Shelley and the construction of our "real" 4th line for the playoffs.

Nodl has some goals, but he's still a mess in the offensive zone. His goals are ENG, empty net created by a great feed by JVR, and the one last night. And, hey, if he keeps driving the net and potting clean up goals, we won't be complaining. But he creates very few chances.

Well we still have a top 9 spot open too, or do you think well get someone at the deadline?

I think we will come out and play well in 3rd and maybe even win this hockey game.

Bobrovsky #1 star so far.

Right now, Lavi is trying to send messages to the other guys... and its early in the year, so understand why he'd put Shelley out there. There is also the issue that he makes his GM look like an a-hole if he starts benching the guy he just invested a 3 year contract in... in October/November. Now, I doubt Lavi would own up to that, but I have to imagine that's a factor right now.

Powe is not coming out of the lineup... he's part of our primary PK rotation, and goes out there with Betts.
