New All-Star Game format

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=5...L%7CNHL%7Chome

Thoughts?

Pierre LeBrun
By the way, no mention of rookie game in all-star game announcement. That's because it's been scrapped.

^^ I'm pretty pissed at that. I enjoyed watching the young stars play.

Certainly sounds interesting. While I always watch it, the ASG certainly has lost it's luster recently. If nothing else, this should make things a bit more entertaining.

I'm also bummed about no more Young Stars game. Always liked that.

I could really care less how they do it; the all star game to me means little more than the honor of getting named to it.

The players just goof around in it anyways.

Only interesting part IMO is the Skills Competition.

The game itself & the rookie game IMO were lame. Doubtful that this changes it.

No hitting, no intensity = not hockey

Sounds fun, but on a side note -

If the NHL is trying to cash in on attracting more fans to run Fantasy Leagues to gain exposure, they should think again.

1, No one cares or even knows NHL players outside the NHL fans.
2, Fantasy players will be too busy putting together their NFL teams for the majority of the season.
3, NFL starts before NHL.
4, ...and probably the most important thing - NFL is so successful with its fantasy leagues because the games are all held on Sunday and Mondays for the most part. Its the perfect sport for fantasy, even how it is scored, the injuries, waivers etc.. The amount of work that goes into the hardcore fantasy player takes from Tuesday-Sat... The hardcore fantasy player would go nuts and probably quit if they had to change their rosters on a nightly basis, it takes a lot of time - especially when considering you probably are in a few NFL leagues as well and dont know dick about hockey.

Thats just my take on it... because I am in an NFL fantasy league and i have barely enough time to do that.

The problem is the game itself. It's not hockey.

Not to nit pick but fantasy hockey is my favorite. It takes 1 minute to set a lineup. Of course, you could put as much effort as you would like into it...

Not too mention the "hardcore" fantasy player should LIKE the fact that they can check rosters on a daily basis as opposed to once a week.

Anyway, if it raises interest in the NHL and increases revenue, I'm all for it.

Crosby and OV as captains? Ugh.

Bet whomever is representing the Rangers is picked last... like the poor kid at the schoolyard that no one ever wants on their team.

Lundqvist will represent this year, more than likely.

Gaborik may or may not get a look depending on how he plays following his injury.

But I would literally bet my life that it will be ****ing Crosby and ****ing Ovechkin.

In all seriousness...this whole things just sounds overly complicated and dumb. I guess they figure that if the fans don't enjoy the game, may as well try to make the players enjoy it.

IMO they took away the only enjoyable part which was the young stars game.

In general, all-star games suck because they take away or limit the elements which make the sport great.

Pro Bowl = tackling is limited
NBA = contact is limited
NHL = checking is non-existant

All these games lack intensity.

The only ASG that I can tolerate believe it or not is baseball because the pitchers still throw their hardest and the players still run their hardest whether it be on the base paths or in the field. Not to mention a win in the MLB ASG = home field advantage in the World Series.

All All Star Games, in all sports, suck now. Nobody really cares anymore. Neither do the players.

This is a great way to make stars in the west more marketable, IMO. LOVE the format.

The one thing that I'd love to see put into the allstar game that I believe would increase revenue and have more fans and the players care more is to make it alil more like baseball and have the winner have home ice advantage. Idk who else would like this but it would add more excitement and players would care alot more. Whattaya all think?
