Overtime Rule changes

Do people like the idea of making overtime 8 minutes (of 4 on 4 for 4 minutes and 3 on 3 for 4 minutes)?

I think the should keep the 4 on 4 as is but make it:

2 points for a regulation or overtime win

1 point for a shootout win

0 points for a loss

This would keep players playing hard right to the shootout. The last 5 minutes of games are all the same. Each team waits till overtime so they can get a point. Make going to the shootout less important and you will see teams trying not to get there.

Though I like the races at the end of the season I don't like it in a way. I don't like how teams 7 through 11 can fight for the last playoff spots pretty much due to overtime losses.

I'd rather see a winner than a tie, but I'd rather see a tie than silly nonsense like 3-on-3 to get a winner.

It's really simple in my opinion, you shouldn't give out more point in games that reach overtime:

3 points for a regulation win, 0 points for the loss. 3 + 0 = 3
2 points for an overtime or shootout win, 1 point for the loss. 2 + 1 = 3

How about a shootout with a 1-on-1 defender?

Would be cool, but I'd rather the current system...Why change something that had worked

I don't mind the OT, and I don't mind awarding 1 point for an OT loss.

What I don't like is the shootout.

There was nothing wrong with games ending in ties, IMO. Just like in boxing, sometimes two opponents end up in a draw.

Expanding the gimmicks to 'extract' a rather artificial win, doesn't really float my boat.

Bring on 3 on 3 after the 4 on 4. That should decide in a game atmosphere instead of the shootout.

I wish the games ended in a tie after 4-on-4.

Sometimes no one deserves to lose a point, and no one deserves to gain an extra point.

BRING BACK THE TIE!

4 on 4 for OT for 5 min I like.

If a team scores in the 5 min OT then that team gets

two [2] pts.

If you lose in OT you get 1 pt.

Shootout team that wins gets 1.5 pts [1 1/2 ] pts.

Team that loses in the shootout gets 1 pt.

Winning a shootout is NOT the same as a team scoring a goal in the 5 min OT. So it should NOT be worth as much...................

10 minutes of sudden death overtime, 4 on 4.

2 points for a win. 0 for the loss. Tie gets a point each.

No more of this 3 point garbage. Also doesn't screw up the record books.

That's how they do (roughly) playoff hockey in the Polish Ekstraliga. It's a lot more fun that way, imo.

Would it go to 3 on 2 if someone gets a penalty?

Personally, I'd like to scrap the stupid shoot out. Is it really that bad if a game ends in a tie? I guess the problem with this system is that teams might really play for a tie, but it wouldn't be that much different to what it is now.

No 3 point games. I grew up with ties and they didn't suck then but when you go to a live game and it ends in a tie it really sucks. Everybody leaves not happy or sad, its just kind of blaaaaa. The shootout is fun and does keep the excitement of the game through to the very end which is good but having it worth so much is not right.

No.

What is it with people thinking less players is more exciting? I like the game played with 5 players and a goaltender aside; the way it was meant to be played.... and playoff hockey, the normal 5v5 kind; is a hell of a lot more interesting than 4 on 4 or 3 on 3.

I am open to any system as long as they stop giving away more points when games go to OT/SO. It is incredibly gimmicky and annoying - either give out ties or wins-losses, not a win to one team and a tie to the other. It's like a system for children - don't worry, there are no losers!

Someone should make a rule change about not making anymore rule changes for a while. We don't watch hockey all the time because we hate it... why are we changing it every year?

You can like hockey while still hating small things about it... like the bonus point and that stupid puck-over-the-glass penalty.

I like the puck over the net rule. Delay of game is Delay of game. If you ain't man enough to get it out of the zone you are not worthy.
