Do people like the idea of making overtime 8 minutes (of 4 on 4 for 4 minutes and 3 on 3 for 4 minutes)?
I think the should keep the 4 on 4 as is but make it:
2 points for a regulation or overtime win
1 point for a shootout win
0 points for a loss
This would keep players playing hard right to the shootout. The last 5 minutes of games are all the same. Each team waits till overtime so they can get a point. Make going to the shootout less important and you will see teams trying not to get there.
Though I like the races at the end of the season I don't like it in a way. I don't like how teams 7 through 11 can fight for the last playoff spots pretty much due to overtime losses.
Personally, I'd like to scrap the stupid shoot out. Is it really that bad if a game ends in a tie? I guess the problem with this system is that teams might really play for a tie, but it wouldn't be that much different to what it is now.
2 points for a win. 0 for the loss. Tie gets a point each.
No more of this 3 point garbage. Also doesn't screw up the record books.
No 3 point games. I grew up with ties and they didn't suck then but when you go to a live game and it ends in a tie it really sucks. Everybody leaves not happy or sad, its just kind of blaaaaa. The shootout is fun and does keep the excitement of the game through to the very end which is good but having it worth so much is not right.
What is it with people thinking less players is more exciting? I like the game played with 5 players and a goaltender aside; the way it was meant to be played.... and playoff hockey, the normal 5v5 kind; is a hell of a lot more interesting than 4 on 4 or 3 on 3.
I am open to any system as long as they stop giving away more points when games go to OT/SO. It is incredibly gimmicky and annoying - either give out ties or wins-losses, not a win to one team and a tie to the other. It's like a system for children - don't worry, there are no losers!
