R.J. Uberger to the Leafs

What would it take? Leafs need a big body like Umberger with a willingness to block shots and go to the net.

What about a Kulemin for Umberger swap? What does TOR need to add?

Leafs cannot part with Kulemin for a guy to be our 3rd line C.

Plus, doesn't Burke hate Umberger?

Umberger would likely be your 1st line LW.

R.J would be your 3rd line center? I did not realize Leafs were that deep.

Umberger would be the Leafs 1st line center probably.

Or he could play LW.

Or he could play RW.

He's one of the best, and usually unheralded, utility guys in the NHL.

No thanks to Umberger.

No offense to him at all, but Leafs need to acquire legit first line players, we can't afford to give up assets for less. It would be nice to add Umberger, but it just wouldn't work.

Umberger is exactly the type of player the Leafs need. I'd rather have him than Versteeg.

Most rational people would. Umberger is an all-effort guy. Great player to have on the team.

He's not a first line player. He belongs on a 2nd or 3rd, and that's not worth trading Nikolai Kulemin for.

Howson wouldnt make that trade anyway.

Only way Umby gets moved is for an overpayment, or as a part of a package for a top 15 center or top 10 D man.

After he was drafted by Vancouver he held out for a big contract coming out of college, Burke said no way, you can rot on the sidelines, Umberger didn't play anywhere in 03/04 then was traded to the Rags at the 04 trade deadline. He didn't sign with the Rags, then became a free agent and was signed by Philly.

There were also rumors of a feud between him and Kesler at Ohio State. If this is true, the Nucks made the right choice by giving the money to Kesler

Kulemin is worth a 1st line forward?

Neither is any center on your roster with the exception of Kadri, who has a strong chance of becoming one.

Problably not, but it's not worht trading Kulemin for anything less than a 1st line forward.

That's all well and good, and if we could trade Versteeg for him, i'm all for it. My point was the Leafs can't afford to go out and spend for Umberger, when their needs are much greater.

Kulemin is already as good as Umberger, and he's younger and cheaper. This would be a pretty stupid move by the leafs.

I'd like to have him on the Leafs- I think he'd be a fan favorite in TO- but I don't think Burke will ever re-acquire him.

I don't think I'd give up Versteeg for him though- that's a bit of a stretch.

If the Leafs don't want to part with Kulemin, then they'd have to offer Nazem Kadri.

for what? At age 28 his best season is 55 points. That's good 2nd line production.

Why the hell would the Leafs trade Kulemin - who's currently outproducing him btw - or Kadri- a top-10 pick- for a 2nd liner?

Forget that he'd be a top liner on the Leafs, he's still a 2nd line player.
