Just thinking about it. Regehr is the first option that comes to mind for me but I don't really see a true leader now and for the future with us right now.

What does everyone think?

I would like to see conroy again as i think he's a great dressing room guy as well as on the bench. How ever his ice time is limited so he would be on the ice very often to talk to refs, and I dont him playing next year. I went J-Bo for the reason that i think he was a good leader on the Panthers and I think he would light a fire under him to keep playing well.

To me Regehr or Gio are the only options. I went Regehr due to his long standing career with the flames.

I picked Gio, if Iginla goes it might mean Regehr isn't far behind. Regehr would be my first choice however, but Gio will be here long term and his play and heart is the kind of example that everyone should be trying to play like.

I chose BMo. >_>

Sure he's only here for a year but he's experienced, plays hard defensively, shows some offensive instinct, and leads by example.

I picked Regehr for a few reasons: he is part our our core and one of our best players, he sets an example on the ice, has been with the Flames for a long time and has the ability to lead a team with his serious and professional approach to the game. If it is a deadline move I could see Conroy finishing the year as Captain and then a permanent one getting it in the off season.

Gio would be my second choice as he is a core player and will be able to set an example on the ice, wether it is PKing, on the PP, throwing a hit, fighting ect. ect. More Vocal than Regehr imo.

Bo would be my 3rd.

None of Bourque, Hagman, Stajan, Tanguay or Jokinen are good enough and consistent enough in their play to lead a team. When Bourque plays the way we know he can, he could make a great captain, but it is the other times that don't work for him. Tanguay would also be an option. Hagman is too inconsistent, Jokinen not liked by many fans, Stajan too new and too young imo.

I went Conroy just because he was the captain before Iginla, and might be one of the few players left after the purge that would follow Iggy leaving...

Why? I hate that line of reasoning. Just because they aren't the teams best player, does not mean they aren't good captain material. I'd rather a guy who puts in an effort every night be the captain then a guy who only puts in effort in every three games but still ends up leading the team in points.

Ethan Moreau may not have been the best captain, but Shawn Horcoff is great captain to have given the situation the Oilers are in.

If Iginla left that would mean an overhaul in this team's core and leadership group. Regehr would be gone as well, I think.

Gio would be the best choice. Signed long-term, part of an emerging leadership group, vocal, confident, consistent in play.

I don't think they would have to do a Chicago-esque period though. They're a very complete team, with the exception of the first line. A rebuild for the Flames would only need to be a year or two long provided the picks don't Rico Fata on them.

How about none of the above.

I wouldn't have a captain and would roll with a few alternates just for the sake of rules. No need for one head to lead the way. Teamwork has been the weakness of this team for so long. Without a singular leader to take the brunt of the responsibility, let the responsibility be spread evenly along the roster. Let the boys learn and grow as a team.

Sarich would also be a good pick IMO, but I would still go with Gio.

Right, I'm not looking at a long-term rebuild. I'm looking for a quick retooling, much like Colorado had last year. Still, Regehr would be on his way out. But maybe I'm putting too much into that. Hell, who knows if Regehr is even willing to waive his NMC.

Wouldn't mind seeing this now, honestly. Let Iginla play the game, take some of the pressure off of his shoulders.

If Iginla is traded, this team better being going through a rebuild. Therefore I'd be game for a stop gap captain in Conroy.

If not, then probably Regehr (assuming not traded), Bourque, Gio, Sarich, all depending on whose still around.

For the record I picked Borque

I think he has that energy and feistiness that is good to have in a leader (old Iggy). I also think giving him a leadership type role will also improve his consistency.
