I would not pick up Boyd because he's really just not an NHL player... yet.
He STILL NEEDS development.. and not really NHL experience per se... more like he needs a couple AHL seasons and physical growth (bulk the hell up). Because seriously, my leaf blower could put him in IR.
To give up an NHL'er for that is difficult for any NHL club to contemplate.
I liked Boyd when he was here, and I thought he wasn't given a fair shake either so I was mad that we traded yet another "young" player that we drafted. That said, there is no room for him on the Flames, he would playing on the 4th line and the players that we already have there are better suited for that role. Boyd is meant to be a top 6 player and he currently is not good enough to fufill that role on 90% of teams in the NHL. Too bad, I think him and Backlund would of made good linemates and they did have some success early on playing together last season.
I love it....whenever a player gets put on waivers, every team board on HFBoards gets a thread about it, with most of the airchair GM's saying they should pick the player up. And then the player clears.
Even if we could pick boyd up, we can't. Aren't we at the max contract limit with 50? I say leave him!
Kronwall's contract really has us in a tight space. Sutter should have insisted that he either played in North America or had his contract voided. I still think that Kronwall would have made/will make a good #7 D.
